07 - Resignation of Reginald HughesItem No. 7 TO: Mayor, Mayor Pro -Tem & City Council Grayson Path, City Manager FROM: Janice Ellis, City Clerk SUBJECT: RESIGNATION OF REGINALD HUGHES CITY COUNCIL DISTRICT TWO SEAT DATE: June 10, 2024 BACKGROUND: On May 20, 2024, Reginald Hughes resigned from City Council District Two, leaving a vacant seat. STATUS OF ISSUE: Texas Local Government Code § 22.012 reads that "a municipal officer elected or appointed under this chapter may resign by submitting the resignation in writing to the governing body of the municipality. The resignation is subject to the approval and acceptance of the governing body." In a subsequent agenda item tonight, Council will be asked to consider City Charter Section 20 and how to proceed with filling the vacant position of City Council District Two. BUDGET: N/A RECOMMENDATION: Approve and accept the resignation of Reginald Hughes as representative for City Council District Two. May 20, 2024 Mayor & City Council City of Paris Paris, Texas Re: Resignation of City Council District No. 2 Mayor & City Council, It has been a privilege serving the citizens of Paris in the role of Council Member for District 2, Mayor Pro -Tem and Mayor over the last 3 1/2 years. I am graciously appreciative of the City Department Heads and Employees, and have enjoyed working with them, the City Council and the PEDC in moving Paris forward through much hard work and countless hours. We, as a team, have accomplished many goals in the last 3 1/2 years. I am respectively submitting my resignation as City Council Member District Two, effective this date. Thank you, We' inald B.
