SUBJECT: APPOINTMENTS TO THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT
DATE: August 12, 2024
BACKGROUND: Policies and Procedures for Boards & Commissions adopted by City Council
require that appointments be made at the second regular City Council meeting in June. City
Council deferred the appointments to their first meeting in July, allowing a Council Member for
District 2 to be seated.
At the July 8, 2024 meeting, City Council made appointments to the various Boards and
Commissions, and at that time there were not a sufficient number of applicants to complete the
process. Staff re -advertised for the vacancies. At the July 22, 2024 meeting, City Council made
appointments to various boards. There were two alternate positions remaining on the Board of
Adjustment.
STATUS OF ISSUE: There were not enough applicants to fill the vacant alternate positions on
the Board of Adjustment. City Council directed staff to re -advertise and to call applicants not
selected for other boards to find out if they would be interested in serving on another board.
Staff contacted applicants who had applied for other boards. Applicant Andrea "Angie" Briscoe
Applicant is interested in serving on the Board of Adjustment. From advertising, staff received
an application from Jerry Williams.
BUDGET: N/A
RECOMMENDATION: Approve a Resolution appointing Angie Briscoe and Jerry Williams to
the fill the two vacant alternate positions on the Board of Adjustment.
RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS,
APPOINTING ANGIE BRISCOE AND JERRY WILLIAMS TO FILL TWO
VACANT ALTERNATE POSITIONS ON THE BOARD OF ADJUSTMENT IN
ACCORDANCE WITH SECTION 16 OF THE CITY ZONING ORDINANCE AND
THE CITY'S POLICIES AND PROCEDURES FOR STANDING BOARDS,
COMMISSIONS, AND COMMITTEES; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND
PROVISIONS RELATED TO THE SUBJECT; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
DATE.
WHEREAS, Section 16-100 of the City of Paris, Texas Zoning Ordinance No. 1710
states in part that the Board of Adjustment shall consist of five (5) members, each to be
appointed by Resolution of the City council for a term of two years, and two (2) alternate
members for terms of two years; and
WHEREAS, currently the two alternate board member positions are vacant; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in
all things approved and incorporated herein for all purposes.
Section 2. That the following appointments are hereby made to the Board of
Adjustment: Angie Briscoe and Jerry Williams are hereby appointed to serve as alternate
members for two-year terms ending on June 30, 2026.
Section 3. That this resolution shall be effective from and after its date of passage.
