1998-059-RES WHEREAS, CITY COUNCIL DID HERETOFORE ON THE 13TH DAY RESOLUTION NO. 98-059 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 13th day of April, 1998, in Ordinance No. 98-016, declare the candidates for District 1 and District 2, for the May 2, 1998, election, elected to office for terms beginning May 7, 1998, after having received certification from the City Clerk that such candidates were unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared; and, WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, in said Ordinance No. 98-016, determine that no election be held in District 1 and District 2 as permitted by V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053; and, WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of Districts 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 2nd day of May, 1998, for the purpose of voting for and electing the Council member from each of said Districts to serve as members of the City Council for the ensuing two (2) years; and, WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in Civil Action No. P-75- lCA, and as provided in the Charter of the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do not conflict with said Order, such election was conducted and held at two (2) specified and designated polling places, that is one polling place in Districts 3 and 6, and early voting of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, with no elections being held in Districts I and 2, as permitted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 20.53; and, WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly appointed and designated election officials of and for the two (2) respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns, after due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the following results of said election, to-wit: (1) IN DISTRICT ONE (1), THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, AFTER RECEIVING CERTIFICA nON FROM THE CITY CLERK THAT THE CANDIDATE W AS UNOPPOSED FOR ELECTION TO OFFICE WITH NO WRITE-IN CANDIDATES BEING DECLARED, DECLARED THE FOLLOWING CANDIDATE ELECTED TO OFFICE: Mary Ann Reed Fisher (2) IN DISTRICT TWO (2), THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, AFTER RECEIVING CERTIFICA nON FROM THE CITY CLERK THAT THE CANDIDATE W AS UNOPPOSED FOR ELECTION TO OFFICE WITH NO WRITE-IN CANDIDATES BEING DECLARED, DECLARED THE FOLLOWING CANDIDATE ELECTED TO OFFICE: Kevin Gray (3) IN DISTRICT THREE (3), A TOTAL OF 125 VOTES WERE CAST FOR COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICT (3) AS FOLLOWS: Early District Voting Thtal Millie McDonald 51 6 57 Gene McWaters, Jr. 64 1 65 Archie Holland 3 0 3 Write-In Candidate 0 0 0 (4) IN DISTRICT SIX (6), A TOTAL OF 86 VOTES WERE CAST FOR COUNCIL MEMBER FROM DISTRICT SIX (6) AS FOLLOWS: Early District Voting llia1 Charlie Neeley 68 11 79 William A. Conder 7 0 7 Write-In Candidate 0 0 0 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL 01' THE CITY 01' PARIS, that, in accordance with Ordinance No. 98-016, which declared unopposed candidates in Districts 1 and 2 elected to office, and from the above and foregoing canvass of the returns of the votes in the two (2) respective voting boxes in such election, it is declared and determined that Mary Ann Reed Fisher is the person declared elected under the authority of V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, as Council member from District One (l), and is therefore elected to serve as Council member from District One (1) and a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; that Kevin Gray is the person declared elected under the authority of V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, as Council member from District Two (2), and is therefore elected to serve as Council member from District Two (2) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; that Gene McWaters, Jr. is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Council member from District Three (3), and is therefore elected to serve as Council member from District Three (3) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; and that Charles Neeley is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Council member from District Six (6), and is therefore elected to serve as Council member from District Six (6) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years. PASSED AND ADOPTED by the City Council of the City of Paris in regular session convened pursuant to the directions of the Election Code of the State of Texas, on this the 7th day of May, 1998.
