03-B Main St. Adv Bd Min 09-21-05 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD ~tember 21, 2005 City Hall Annex 150 SE 1st Street 3:00 p.m. A meeting of the members of the Paris Main Street Adv. Board was held Wed. Sept. 21, 2005 at 3 p.m., ln the Aikin Building. Zach Saffle, Chairman, presided. PRESENT: Linda Suarez Knox, Barbara Wilson, Walt Brown (Alt.), David House, Suzy Harper, Pike Burkhart (Alt.), Jennifer Long ABSENT: Bailey Gant (Alt.), Renee Harvey (Alt.), Drew Crawford Zach Saffle called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. August 24, 2005 minutes were reviewed by board members and a motion was made by Pike Burkhart to approve the minutes as prepared. Suzy Harper seconded and minutes were unanimously approved. Committee Reports } Organization Committee - Zach Saffle reported that his committee had not met but expressed an interest to focus on Historic Downtown signage placement. Pike Burkhart suggested a meeting with TxDOT officials to discuss the possibility of courtesy signs at the gateways just outside the Paris city limits. He will coordinate and notify Main Street Advisory Board members as well as Chamber of Commerce representatives . Possibility of tapping into hotel/motel tax as funding for signage was also mentioned. } Promotions Committee - Beth Golden reported that her commi ttee had not met but would like to schedule a meeting in November to focus efforts on a Main Street website and new communications tools such as newsletters or emails. } Design Committee - No Report. } Economic Restructuring Committee - No Report. Page 1 of2 .--"" '-T" " " Christmas Decorations - There are lights in the trees, however we are unsure if they are in good condition. We do have stock Christmas light pole banners that we can use. An interest in lights on the buildings also expressed. Lights are already in place but some are in disrepair. A meeting with a lighting representative is in order to determine the possibility of restoration. Festival of Pumpkins - An update on the festival was requested. Beth Golden informed board members that fundraising was tough this year due to several natural disasters and the loss of a previous large donor. $2800.00 has been collected and musical acts have been booked. Everything is lining up well and no maj or problems were reported. 2 - 20X20 tents are being donated by HWH for the garden club and the antique tractor club. Discussion: Thinking of adopting a Sister City. Wal t Brown recommended de Nimes, France. More research will continue regarding this possible connection.
