04-A Library Adv Bd Min 3-22-06 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LffiRARY ADVISORY BOARD March 22, 2006 The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at 4:00 PM in City Hall Council Chambers Meeting Room. The following Board members were present: Jackie Alsobrook, Debbie Anderson, Sarah Gambill, Deborah Hatley, Bill Kennedy, Audrey Lakes, Fran Neeley and Jake Street. Also attending were Priscilla McAnally, Library Director and Amanda Green, Friends of the Library president. Community member Archie Holland attended to observe the meeting. The minutes from the February meeting were approved. The budget report was favorable. Expenditures for the first six months of the fiscal year are at 45% of allotted budget. Recommendations for Board vacancy positions were discussed. Several names were submitted for consideration as replacements for outgoing member Carl Lucas as well as upcoming vacancies due to term expirations in the next few months. A recommendation to accept Eddie Pool to serve as a replacement member effective in May was made. Ms. McAnally will work on a Volunteer Application and policy. Background checks will be completed on any volunteer who would be working directly with children. Ideas pertaining to a retaining wall for the front lawn of the library were discussed. Ms. McAnally will pursue information related to this project and accompanying landscaping next week. Money for the project will be taken from the buildings and grounds section of the budget. Approximately $9,000 may be used for completion of the project. A $5,000 donation was left to the library to be used as it chooses from the estate of Mary Osborne Steel. February circulation was down 16% from the same month of2005. Library visits were down 17%. 128 new library cards were issued. Memorial donations for February were $425. There were 19 Children's programs with 149 in attendance. Friends of the Library president, Amanda Green, reported that the spring luncheon will be held on April 24. April 10-16 is National Library Week. The Friends group will honor employees of the library with free admission to the luncheon. A new program, "Reach Out and Read," will be implemented for the summer. The Friends group, in conjunction with PCA (Primary Care Associates) medical facility, will distribute books to children with each visit to a physician. A matching grant will fund a reader for children to listen to while in the waiting area of the PCA clinic. The grant will also assist in funding the purchase of the books provided. Volunteers will be needed for summer work to assist in various library duties. The "Reach Out and Read" program will also need volunteers. The library has a total often employees.
