1998-105-RES WHEREAS, IN ORDER TO PROVIDE AN ATTRACTIVE ENTRYWAY INTO COP
RESOLUTION NO. 98- 105
WHEREAS, in order to provide an attractive entryway into the City of Paris and to
make a positive first impression on those considering Paris for locating new industry,
holding conventions, tourism, employment in the medical field, or a as place to raise a
family, the Community Development Committee of the Lamar County Chamber of
Commerce has developed the Gateway Project; and,
WHEREAS, the Gateway Project proposal, attached hereto as Exhibit A, outlines
the project and the funding which is not to exceed a total cost of $50,000.00, with
$10,000.00 to be provided by private sources through the Lamar County Chamber of
Commerce, $10,000.00 to be provided by the City of Paris, with the remainder to be
provided by the Texas Department of Transportation; and,
WHEREAS, the City of Paris seeks to promote beautification efforts and it is
deemed in the best interest of the citizens of the City of Paris to participate in the Gateway
Project and the terms and conditions of the proposal attached hereto as Exhibit A, should
in all things be approved; NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, that
the City of Paris' participation in the Gateway Project which requires partial funding by the
City of Paris in the amount of $10,000.00, under the terms and conditions of the proposal,
attached hereto as Exhibit A, be and the same is hereby, approved
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 10th day of August, 1998.

OBJECTIVE:
- To provide an attractive entry way into Paris.
--To make a positive first impression on those considering Paris
for ...new industry, conventions, tourism, work in the medical
community, or a place to raise a family.
--To make a profound statement of city and state pride to travelers
passing through Paris as they leave the state of Texas.
--To set the pace for beautification efforts on hwy 24 S. that would
span from Loop 286 through S. Church and on to the square.
LOCATION:
--The parcel of property located on HWY 24 S. adjacent to the
Evergreen Cemetery and EM. HWY 1497 (the old Dallas Highway.)
COMPOSITION:
--The 75'1. x 12'h. structure will consist of:
-steel and masonry body
-Drivit or plaster exterior
-anodized metal lettering and logos
-concrete caps and globes
LANDSCAPING:
- Adaptive, low-maintenance landscaping will complement the
structure. Design approval by TX DOT. Suggested varieties include
pine trees, crape myrtles, and regional, seasonal wildflowers.
FUNDING:
-Total project costs not to exceed $50,000 consisting of:
-$10,000 from private sources through LCCOC
-$10,000 from the City of Paris
-remainder from TX DOT
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
-Maintenance Agreement between City of Paris and TX DOT for
establishing and preserving landscaping
-Electrical services for basic lighting design
