Paris Public Library Advisory Board
Minutes of the Regular Meeting
June 21,2006 ·

The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday afternoon, June 21, 2006, at 4
0' clock in the City Council Conference Room at Paris City Hall. Chairman Bill Kennedy called the meeting to
order. Other members in attendance were Jake Street, Deborah Hatley, Debbie Anderson, Eddie Poole, Jackie
Alsobrook, and Fran Neeley. Also in attendance was Priscilla McAnally, Library Director.

Jackie Alsobrook made a motion to accept the April 20 minutes with a second by Jake Street. Due to a lack of
quorum, there were no minutes from the May meeting.

Priscilla McAnally distributed the draft of a proposed Collection Development Policy for board members'
evaluation and comments. The question of an overdue book ordinance was brought up. The point was made that
such an ordinance would apply to the Circulation Policy, but Ms. McAnally will research to see if one does
exist.

Ms. McAnally has received bids on new carpet to replace the 20-year-old carpet currently in the library. Smith
Carpets bid is $24,858 and Plaza Floor Covering bid is $17,221. The Friends of the Library will contribute
$5000. If $5000 can be taken from bequests, the remainder can be budgeted. Upon discussion, the board felt the
bids needed to be more specific. Bill Kennedy will help select an appropriate carpet. Fran Neeley moved to
table the issue until those details are worked out.

Fran Neeley made a motion to recommend Hilda Mallory for the upcoming vacancy on the board. Jackie
Alsobrook seconded.

Ms. McAnally reported that chairs in the magazine area of the library have been reupholstered in a more
durable fabric. She distributed her proposed 2006-2007 budget. May circulation was down 12% from 2005 and
library visits were down 18.7%. There were 143 new items for May and $377 in memorial gifts. There were
four children's programs with a total of 62 in attendance.

The library has received a certificate of appropriateness from the Historic Preservation Committee for work on a
retaining wall for the front lawn. Hilliard & Sons will build the wall and redo the sidewalk. Curb renovation
will be budgeted next year.

David Dike has been retained to appraise the library's artwork, including the Biggers mural and the Bywaters
panels. Ms. McAnally would like to move the Bywaters works back to the original section of the library for
both aesthetic and preservation reasons.

The meeting adjourned at 5 p.m.

~ t2.ut~

Debbie Anderson
Secretary

roo
