A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
TEXAS, APPROVING THE EXEMPTION FOR THE CITY'S ELECTION
PRECINCT FROM THE BILINGUAL REQUIREMENT OF THE TEXAS
ELECTION CODE; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. Pursuant to Section 272.003 of the Texas Election Code, an election precinct for which
the last United States Census shows that persons of Spanish origin or descent comprises less than five percent
(5.0%) of the precincts inhabitants is exempt from the Bilingual Election Materials Requirement of §
272.002, Texas Election Code.
Section 2. The 2000 United States Census shows that only 4.1% of the City of Paris' population
is of Hispanic origin or descent, therefore, the Paris City Council hereby authorizes the Mayor of the City
of Paris to execute a written certification that the City is exempt from the Bilingual Requirements and to file
same along with the other documents required by § 272.003(b), Texas Election Code, with the Lamar County
Election Administrator and the Paris City Clerk.
Section 3. That this resolution shall take effective from and after its date of passage.
