AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, AMENDING ARTICLE
I, CHAPTER 18, JUDICIAL DEPARTMENT, OF THE CODE OF
ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF PARIS BY ADDING ANEW SECTION 18-
8, JUROR FEES; PROVIDING THAT PERSONS WHO REPORT FOR JURY
DUTY IN RESPONSE TO SUMMONS BY MUNICIPAL COURT SHALL
RECEIVE A JUROR FEE; PROVIDING A REPEALER CLAUSE AND
SEVERABILITY CLAUSE; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the City of Paris has historically paid a juror fee of $6.00 to each person that
reports for jury service at the Municipal Court; and,
WHEREAS, the Texas Legislature during the 80th Regular Legislative Session passed Senate
Bill 560 which stated in part that municipalities are not governed by the requirements of Section
61.001 of the Texas Government Code applicable to juror expense reimbursement and may
determine for themselves whether or not to pay Juror Fees for Municipal court jury service; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has determined that juror service at the
City's Municipal Court is an important civic service and that they should continue to pay a jury fee;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PARIS, TEXAS:
Section 1. That the findings set out in the preamble to this ordinance are hereby in all things
approved.
Section 2. That a new Section 18-8, entitled Juror Fee, be added to Article I, Chapter 18 of
the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris and that it should read in its entirety as follows:
"Sec. 18-8. Juror Fee.
(a) A person who reports for jury service in response to a Summons from the
Municipal Court of the City of Paris, Texas, is entitled to receive as reimbursement
for travel and other expenses the sum of six dollars and no/1 00 ($6.00) from the City
of Paris.
(b) The municipal court clerk shall prepare a list of persons entitled to receive a
juror fee to the Finance Department following each jury trial docket held.
Section 3. That all provisions of the ordinances of the City of Paris, Texas in conflict with
the provisions ofthis ordinance are hereby repealed, and all other provisions ofthe ordinances ofthe
City of Paris not in conflict with the provisions of this ordinance shall remain in full force and effect.
Section 4. That it is the intention of the City Council of the City of Paris that this ordinance,
and every provision hereof, shall be considered severable, and the invalidity or partial invalidity of
any section, clause, or provisions of this ordinance shall not affect the validity of any other portion
of this ordinance.
Section 5. That this ordinance shall become effective immediately upon its passage.
