DESCRIPTION: Hear request to lease 811 Bonham Street property to non-profit organizations.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION: Council previously authorized the sale of the former Police
and Municipal Courts Building and in fact staff was prepared to begin the bidding process
this month. Ms. Eubanks has requested that the City consider making the facility available
at no cost to local non-profit service providers, some of whom are in need of new locations.
The appraisal conducted in preparation for the sale of the building came back at $145,000.
If Council wants to suspend the sale process to investigate Ms. Eubanks' proposal, staff
recommends that interested non-profits organize a committee to evaluate the current
building condition, the renovation costs, annual maintenance and operating expenses, and
develop a business plan that address all three. After an agreement is reached among the
participating agencies then they should approach Council about a lease.
