Council Date: 04/14/08 RECOMMENDED MOTION: Approve as presented. POLICY ISSUE~S~: Public Safety BACKGROUND: Information presented to the Traffic Commission meeting March 4, 2008 regarding a request from Commission members for a left turn lane in front of Crockett School. AC Hundley and City Engineer Shawn Napier measured Collegiate and other streets in front of other Paris schools to determine what streets if any would be wide enough for left turn lanes. Collegiate in front of Crockett was the only street of sufficient width for the establishment of the turn lane. PISD was contacted and AC Hundley interviewed Crockett principal Angela Chadwick for any input regarding the turn lane. Ms. Chadwick thought it was a good idea and requested that we proceed with the lane allowing left turns into the southernmost drive of the school parking lot. The lane would begin approximately 50 north of the drive exiting the Crockett parking lot. BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION: Traffic Commission recommended the placement of the lane.
