POLICY ISSUE(S): Fiscal BACKGROUND: The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant, administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, has been available for equipment purchases for the past several years. The City of Paris participates in the grant along with the Lamar County Sheriff's office in a required 50/50 split that does not require any local matching funds. The grant allocation has been decreasing each year to a new low this year of $20,340.00. The City's share of this grant will be $10,170.00. The police department would like to replace 10 desktop computer workstations that have slower processors which doesn't allow for efficient processing of digital video of interviews of witnesses and suspects, and slower response times with the new records management system. Some of these computers will replace even slower models in the booking area of the jail. If the application is approved, the attached Memorandum of Understanding with Lamar County needs to be approved also.
