RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Report on the status of the demolition of the Casa Bonita Apartment Complex.
POLICY ISSUE(S):
Council objective; Nuisance abatement
BACKGROUND:
On September 8, 2008, the City Council awarded the bid to Intercon Demolition in the amount of
$475,232.00, which includes demolition of 18 buildings and the removal of numerous concrete building
pads and asphalt parking lots. In the event the owner fails to demolition four buildings on his adjacent
property within 60 days of the award, the City Council alternatively awarded the bid to remove those
buildings and accompanying concrete pads and asphalt parking lots in the amount of $82,964.00.
Contract documents were received back from Intercon on October 24; however, the bond was not signed
and was not in the correct amount. Intercon has advised that they will remedy this and immediately
forward a corrected bond document. I anticipate a notice to proceed being issued on all buildings in the
complex (including those buildings not owned by the City) by the date of the Council meeting, with
demolition beginning by no later than mid-November.
