A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING A LOCAL DISASTER IN THE CITY OF
PARIS PURSUANT TO SECTION 418.108 OF THE DISASTER ACT OF 1975
AS A CONSEQUENCE OF SEVERE WINTER CONDITIONS AND ICE
STORMS; MAKING OTHER FINDINGS AND PROVISIONS RELATED TO
THE SUBJECT; AND DECLARING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, the city of Paris, Texas, on the 25th day of December, 2000, suffered
widespread and severe damage, injury, and loss of life or property (and there is imminent threat of
more of the same) resulting from extreme winter conditions and ice storms; and,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has determined that extraordinary
measures must be taken to alleviate the suffering of people and to protect or rehabilitate property;
and,
WHEREAS, Section 418.108 of the Texas Disaster Act of 1975, as amended, as codified
in Vernon's Texas Codes Annotated, Government Code, Chapter 418 authorizes the Mayor as the
presiding officer of a city council of a home rule city to declare a local state of disaster, and that said
state of disaster shall continue for a period of not more than seven days from the date of such
declaration, unless continued or renewed thereafter, or unless extended for a greater period of time
with consent of the governing body; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS,
TEXAS:
Section I. That the findings set out in the preamble to this resolution are hereby in all things
approved.
Section 2. That a state of disaster is hereby in all things confirmed, ratified, and declared
for the city of Paris, Texas, in accordance with prior proclamations of the Mayor of the City of Paris,
and pursuant to action taken by the City Council this date, said state of disaster to be declared
beginning December 25, 2000, and continuing until such time as the disaster is abated.
Section 3. That the City's Emergency Management Plan, including the activation of the
recovery and rehabilitation aspects of all applicable local or inter-jurisdictional emergency
management plans, and authorization for the furnishing of aid and assistance, is hereby in all things
implemented and activated.
Section 4. That this proclamation declaring a local state of disaster in the city of Paris shall
be given prompt and general publicity and shall be filed promptly with the City Clerk of the City of
Paris, Paris, Texas.
Section 5. That this resolution shall take effect immediately from and after its issuance.
