BACKGROUND:
At the City Council meeting of July 13, 2009, it was a consensus of Council to advertise for volunteers
to serve on the Fire Safety Committee to review the 2006 edition of the International Fire Code, the
Building Code, and amendments. Council made a decision that the Committee would be made up of ten
individuals, including the city manager, the city attorney and the fire chief.
Staff advertised on the city website and through the local media beginning July 21. As of this date, we
have received three committee applications.

INTERNATIONAL FIRE & BUILDING CODES REVIEW COMMITTEE APPLICATION
The Paris City Council is seeking committed individuals who are dedicated to the well-being of the Paris
community to serve on an ad hoc committee to review the International Building and Fire Codes and
consider recommendations for adoption by the Council. In addition to the general qualifications listed in
the certification below, other qualifications may be mandated by statute, City Charter, ordinance, or

Special Knowledge and Ezperience
Served in two fire departments where building inspections and pre-fire planning was
heavily stressed which required knowledge of the codes and their application.
Served as Safety Director for Austin State School, a facility of the Texas Department of
Mental Health and Mental Retardation to ensure that all client used buildings met the physical
and operational requirements of the federally mandated NFPA Life Safety Code.
While a member of the Gun Barrel City, Texas Planning and Zoning Commission,
worked with members of the City Council to understand the 2000 edition of the International Fire
Code, which was adopted and implemented.
This is probably not pertinent to this position; but the application asks for any service I
have performed on any City boards, commissions, or committees. I served on the Code
Enforcement Task Force as a replacement member for the last eight months of the task force.
