POLICY ISSUE(S):
Public safety
BACKGROUND:
A complaint was received concerning traffic exiting the Continental Village Apartments 3315 Lamar.
The drive exits into the intersection of 33`d & Lamar with no traffic control device for vehicles leaving
the complex and thus creating a safety issue (the exit is the fourth side of an intersection already
controlled on the other three sides by traffic signals). A complaint was also made concerning
pedestrians crossing the intersection of 33`d & Lamar with no crosswalk.
TxDOT was requested to conduct a traffic study to determine if there was a need to place a traffic light
for vehicles exitiny Continental Village apartments and also the need for a pedestrian crosswalk at the
'
intersection of 33
& Lamar. After completion of the traffic study TxDOT recommended a traffic light
for traffic exiting the Continental Village apartments. TxDOT also recommended a pedestrian
crosswalk be placed on the west and south side of the intersection of 33ra SE & Lamar.
BOARD/COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION:
At their 3/02/10 meeting, the Traffic Commission recommended approval of TxDOT's requests to place
traffic light and pedestrian crosswalk at 33rd & Lamar.
