18-Deliberate and act on rejection of bids for Lake Crook Fishing PierCITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET Submittal Date: Originating Department: Presented By: Agenda Item No.: 6/11/10 Engineering, Planning Shawn Napier, P.E. City Engineer Council Date: & Development /Director of Public Works 18. 6/14/10 RECOMMENDED MOTION: Deliberate and act on a rejecting all bids for the Lake Crook Pier Construction. POLICY ISSUE(S): Bidding; Capital improvements BACKGROUND: On May 18, 2010, bids were opened for the construction of a pier at Lake Crook. Seven companies picked up RFPs but only two bids were received and both bids where over budget (see accompanying bid tabulation). The first two bid items are for the pilings and pier. There is a big discrepancy in the two contractors bid amounts for these two items. The unit price for the pilings ranged from $902.00 each to $3,676.47 each. The unit price for the pier ranged from$11.30 per square foot to $90.00 per square foot. The Hayter's estimate for this project was approximately $105,000.00. Hayter Engineering is asking the structural engineer to relook at the piling sizes to determine if we can save any money by going to a different size or type. The seed and mulch item is being removed from the list of bid items and this work will be done by the Parks Department. The project will be rebid on June 22 with the bid awarded by the August 9 City Council meeting.
