BACKGROUND:
The Main Street Program has made an impact in the community over the past seventeen years. The
success of the Program would not be possible without the dedication of countless volunteers, who love
our City's heritage and who are committed in helping preserve it for the future generations. Paris Main
Street and Paris Historic Preservation Commission would like to join in with the National Trust for
Historic Preservation and the Texas Historical Commission, by declaring the month of May as National
Preservation Month in the City of Paris.

PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, historic preservation is an effective tool for managing growth and
sustainable development,, revitalizing neighborhoods, fostering local pride and
maintaining community character while enhancing livability; and,
WHEREAS, historic preservation is relevant for communities across the nation,
both urban and rural, and for Americans of all ages, all walks of life and all ethnic
backgrounds; and,
WHEREAS, it is important to celebrate the role of history in our lives and the
contributions made by dedicated individuals in helping to preserve the tangible aspects
of the heritage that has shaped us as a people; and
WHEREAS, "Celebrating America's Treasures" is the theme for National
Preservation Month 2011, cosponsored by Texas Historic Commission and the National
Trust for Historic Preservation,.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Will Biard, Mayor of the City of Paris, Texas, by the
authority vested in me, do hereby proclaim May as
"NATIONAL PRESERVATION MONTH"
in the City of Paris and do, hereby, urge all the citizens of Paris to join their fellow
citizens across the United States in recognizing and participating in this special
observance.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the
City of Paris to be affixed this 9th day of May, 2011.
