Acting with city staff in planning events and identifying needs of the department Functioning as a liaison between city staff and citizens of the community Researching possible programs as to their desirability or potential usefulness in Paris Potentially fundraising to provide equipment, supplies or "extras" desired, but not provided for in the budget This Board would be ADVISORY in nature only. It would NOT have policy making power or the ability to allocate budgeted funds • Many cities have very active Parks and Recreation Boards that bring new ideas, enthusiasm, and renewed energy to the Departments. - Paris' Main Street Board has been so successful in assisting the Main Street Manager and Program that the potential exists for similar success with the Parks and Recreation Dept so that the entire city could benefit from this board. - Beginning ideas for the Parks and Recreation Board to potentially research and determine the viability and economic feasibility for Paris: A "bark park" A community garden or gardens on excess city property Community activities in neighborhood parks - Resources available to city staff, council members and the new Parks and Recreation Board Members include: -Parks and Recreation Board By-Laws from several cities with a Parks and Recreation Board -National Recreation and Parks Association (NRPA) Advisory Boards Member Resource Guide -NRPA Park Advocate Handbook 204
