MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF
MAIN STREET ADVISORY BOARD

1.
A meeting of the member of the Paris Main Street Advisory Board
was held on Wednesday, June 23, 2004, at 3 p.m., in the City Hall
Annex Break Room, with Zach Saffle, Chairman, presiding.

Lisa Wright, Director, Community Development, City of Paris
The meeting was called to order at 3 p.m.
The minutes of the previous meeting held on Monday, May 23, 2004,
were unanimously approved as submitted.

Lindsey Harper presented a report on the proposed pocket park with
sketches and MHS Planning and Deisgn Company. In her report,
Lindsey stated that there was a 50-50 grant out for the park's
development and that approval for the grant will be sought at the
upcoming City Council meeting on July 12. It was suggested that

Lindsey contact the Texas Historical Commission's architect for
information regarding national park funding.
Lindsey Harper then reported on the Festival of Pumpkins meeting.
Planning for the annual festival is well underway and volunteers are
needed to work the day of the event. The next festival planning
meeting will be held on July 6. This year's theme is "Pumpkins and
Pardners."
A few board members attended a tourism marketing and research
seminar held recently in Mt. Vernon, Texas. Lindsey Harper
presented a map the downtown merchants are creating, under the
leadership of Jeff Faber and his wife, to market downtown Paris to
visitors to our local events.
Historic signage was discussed and is contingent upon a new design
for the Paris Main Street logo.
6 A. On a motion by Barbara Wilson, seconded by Renee Harvey, the
Paris Main Street Board unanimously voted to decrease the board's
size from 11 to 7 with four alternates in an attempt to insure
quorums at future meetings. Bill Kirby and Jennifer Long will be
recommended to the Mayor for appointment at the July 12 Council
meeting. Renee Harvey, Pike Burkhart and Bailey Gant will be
recommended as alternates.
B.
Brief discussion was held with regard to the emblems for the historic
walking tour. It was reported that the merchants are supportive of
this endeavor.
c.
A whine and cheese gathering is being planned with the downtown
merchants for August of September in Bywaters Park.

Paris Junior College President Pamela Anglin has given permission

for the parking lot on Grand Avenue to be cleaned up and used for
additional downtown parking.¡
E.
During the discussion on selec~ing p,lants for the new planters in the
downtown sidewalks, it was reported that some of the downtown
merchants do not want trees obstructing the view of their business
from the street. Board memb~rs Suzy Harper and Barbara Wilson
will be working with a professional landscaper on design and
plantings.
7.
Requested items for future ag~nda included:, A Main Street website,
planning session for short andllong range plans, low interest loan
pool, recommendations from rHC for the City Hall façade.
There being no further businefs, the meeting was adjourned at 4:20
p.m. .
