MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE LmRARY
ADVISORY BOARD
April 20, 2005
The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session
Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at 4:00PM in the Library with Chairman
Nancee Salzman presiding. The following Board members were present:
Sarah Gambill, Deborah Hatley, Bill Kennedy, Carl Lucas, Nancee
Salzman, Jake Street and Walter Williams. Also attending were Priscilla
McAnally, Library Director, Amanda Green, Friends of the Library
President, and Gene Anderson, Finance Director for the City of Paris.
Absent were Jackie Alsobrook and Anna Davis.
The minutes from the March meeting were approved.
Gene Anderson reported on information related to available Library
Trusts Funds. A spreadsheet handout summarizing maturity dates of
Certificates of Deposit and available interest rates, etc. was distributed.
Based on information related to current rates on CD's, Mr. Anderson
recommended looking into long-term investments with monies remaining
after the purchase of the new integrated library system.
Ms. McAnally gave on update on the two integrated library systems, GIS
Information Systems and The Library Corporation, in relation to price
quotes. A recommendation was made to purchase the GIS Polaris system,
which is an upgrade from the current Galaxy system that the library uses.
Approximate cost the system will not exceed 575,000. Cost will include on-
site consultation prior to installation and training after the installation.
Purchase of the system will be made with monies from the Library Trusts
funds. Ms. McAnally expressed thanks to the board for the purchase of the
new system.
The budget report was favorable.
March circulation statistics were down 31 % from the same month in 2004.
A total of 378 new items were added to the collection in March.

Children's programming in March included 14 programs with 100
children and 89 adults attending.
Memorial donations for March totaled $581.
Friends of the Library President Amanda Green discussed the upcoming
luncheon scheduled for April 25, 2005. The number of people expected at
the luncheon is 80 to 100. Membership dues are now being collected. The
Friends' sponsored Book Sale will take place September 2-3 in the Gallery
of the Library. Friday, September 2 will be a Friends' preview and then
Saturday, September 3 will be open to the public. Also the Friends have
agreed to purchase the telephone notification software and 3 computers for
the new library system.
The meeting adjourned at 4:50 p.m.
The next meeting will be held Wednesday, May 18,m 2005 in the Gallery.
