08-DISCUSSION AND DIRECTION ON DRAINAGE ON THE CORNER OF CLEMENT ROAD AND NE 34TH STCITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET Submittal Date: 03-09-2012 Originating Department: Engineering, Planning Presented By: Shawn Napier, P.E. Director of Agenda Item No.: Council Date: 03-12-2012 & Development Engineering, Planning & Development g. RECOMMENDED MOTION: At the Council meeting of February 27, 2012, Mayor Hashmi requested City Staff to bring this item back for discussion and direction to City Staff. POLICY ISSUE(S): Drainage BACKGROUND: At the February 27t" City Council meeting staff was directed to get an estimate to fix a drainage problem that exist at the corner of Clement Road and NE 34th Street. Mr. Roger Stripland lives at 3420 Clement Road. He informed me that on two different occasion's water has been within five feet of his house, but has not flooded his house. Staff has previously surveyed the driveway culverts along Clement Road between NE 34t" and NE 36`n Streets. Half of the culverts flow East and the other half flow West. The master drainage plan supports the survey information. The water in front of Mr. Stripland's house is supposed to drain West to Stillhouse Creek Tributary #22. Staff is going to survey the finished floor elevation (FFE) of the Stripland home and both Clement Road and NE 34th St. near the curve. If the curve is higher than the Stripland's FFE then I propose the curve in the road be lowered until The FFE is several inches above the Road. This wark can be performed by the City Street Department.
