CITY OF PARIS HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION

1.The Historic Preservation Commission Meeting was called to order by
Chairman Arvin Starrett at 12:00 P.M.
A.The following members were present:
Barbara Wilson, Vice Chairman
Ann Rodgers, Secretary
Sue Lancaster
Paul Denney
B.The following members were absent:
Jerry Raper
Claudia Hunt
Alternates:Brian Wear
Becki Norment
C.Also present was Bethany Golden, Main Street Coordinator, sitting as
Assistant Historic Preservation Officer in the absence of Lisa Wright,
Historic Preservation Officer, who was sick.
2. Motion to approve the minutes
Approval of minutes from previous meetings.
for March 28, 2005, and April 13, 2005, was made by Sue Lancaster, seconded
by Ann Rogers. Motion carried 5-0.

Consideration of and action on the following Certificates of Appropriateness:
A.. Motion to approve the COA
509 S. Main - Glenn and Lynn Bertelson
to paint the house and brick retaining wall and construct a carport with
squared columns was made by Barbara Wilson, seconded by Sue
Lancaster. Motion carried 5-0. The Bertelsons were advised that they
could change the exterior color slightly from that approved without
need for an additional COA.

Consideration of and possible action on amendments to the proposed Design
Guidelines for the Downtown Historic District as the same relates to
The Board expressed a concern that other ordinances relating to
canopies.
the downtown district prohibited canvass or wooden canopies because they
were a potential fire hazard. The Commission asked the staff to look into
those ordinances and report back. Motion to table was made by Paul Denney,
seconded by Ann Rogers. Motion carried 5-0.
5. The Assistant
Receipt of report from the Historic Preservation Officer.
Historic Preservation Officer handed out the attached report from the HPO.
6. The Commission requested
Request items from Board for future agendas.
copies of the existing ordinances related to canopies. They also requested
a report on dilapidated buildings downtown and on what can be done about
storage of building materials outside.
7.The meeting adjourned at 12:45 p.m.
