98-016 ORD DECLARING UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN DISTRICTS 1 & 2 FOR MAY 2, 1998 ELECTIONORDINANCE NO. 98-016 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, DECLARING UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES IN DISTRICT 1 AND DISTRICT 2 FOR THE MAY 2, 1998, GENERAL ELECTION ELECTED TO OFFICE; DETERMI1vING THAT NO ELECTION BE HELD IN DISTRICT 1 OR DISTRICT 2; DIRECTING THAT A COPY OF THIS ORDINANCE BE POSTED AT APPROPRIATE POLLING PLACES; DIRECTING THAT CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION BE ISSUED TO THE UNOPPOSED CANDIDATES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 13, 1998. WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris did heretofore, on the 9th day of February, 1998, in Resolution No. 98-020, order the regular municipal election for the City of Paris to he held on the 2nd day of May, 1998, by the qualified voters in Districts 1, 2, 3, and 6 of the City of Paris; and, WHEREAS, the City Clerk, Mattie Cunningham, being the authority responsible for having the official ballot prepared, has certified, in writing, that the candidates for District 1 and District 2 are unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared and that there are no propositions to appear on the ballot; and, WHEREAS, under the authority granted in V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, it is deemed appropriate that the candidates for District 1 and District 2 be declared elected to office and that no election be held in those Districts; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS: Section 1. That, for the May 2, 1998, general election, the candidate for District 1, Mary Ann Fisher, and the candidate for District 2, Kevin Gray, having been certified by the City Clerk as being unopposed for election to office with no write-in candidates being declared, be, and they are hereby, declared elected to office, which terms shall begin on May 7, 1998. Section 2. That, in accordance with V.T.C.A., Election Code, Section 2.053, and because there are no propositions to appear on the ballot, it is hereby determined that no election be held in District 1 or District 2. Section 3. That the City Clerk be, and she is hereby, directed to post a copy of this Ordinance on election day at each polling place that would have been used in the election. Section 4. That a certificate of election shall be issued to each candidate in the same manner as provided for a candidate elected at the election. Section 5.
