ORDINANCE NO. 96-008
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT THE
CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, BE AMENDED BY REVI5ING CHAPTER
11, ARTICLE I, SECTION 11-5; PROVIDING FOR CHANGING THE REFERENCE
THEREIN FROM DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT TO CHIEF
BUILDING OFFICIAL; PROVIDING FOR THE REVISION OF CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE
IV, SECTIONS 11-91 AND 11-92 OF SAID CODE; PROVIDING FOR ADOPTION OF
THE NATIONAL ELECTRICAL CODE, 1993 EDITION; PROVIDING FOR
DELETIONS, MODIFICATIONS AND AMENDMENTS TO SAID CODE; PROVIDING
FOR THE REPEAL OF CHAPTER 11, ARTICLE IV, SECTIONS 11-95, 11-99, 11-102
AND 11-110 OF SAID CODE AND DECLARING THE SAME TO BE NULL AND VOID
AND OF NO EFFECT; PROVIDING FOR A PENALTY NOT TO EXCEED $2,000.00;
REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT
HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF MARCH 1, 1996.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS:
5ection 1. That Chapter 11, Article I, Section 11-5 of the Code of Ordinances of the
City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the same is hereby, amended so that such shall read as
follows:
"Sec. 11-5. Office of electrical inspector created; qualifications, appointment
and general duties of electrical inspector.
"There is hereby created the office of electrical inspector. The person chosen
to fill this office shall have had at least six (6) years' experience as an electrician,
be a graduate of an approved school of electrical engineering, or be a licensed
electrical engineer with two (2) years' experience in the field of electrical
engineering. He shall be appointed by the City Manager and shall perfortn the
duties imposed upon him by this chapter under the supervision and direction of
the Chief Building Official. "
Section 2. That Chapter 11, Article IV, Sections 11-91 and 11-92 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the same are hereby, amended so that
such shall read as follows:
"Sec. 11-91. National Electrical Code - Adoption.
"For the purpose of practical safeguarding of persons and of buildings and their
contents from hazards arising from the use of electricity for light, heat, power,
radio, signalling and for other purposes, that certain electrical code known as the
National Electrical Code, 1993 Edition, published by the National Fire Protection
Association, save and except such portions as are deleted, modified or amended
by this article, is hereby adopted as the minimum standards for the City, and the
same is hereby incorporated as fully as if set out at length herein. A copy of
such Code has been and is now on file in the office of the City Clerk, and the
provisions thereof shall be controlling in the installation of all electrical wiring,
devices and equipment within the corporate limits of the City.
"Sec. 11-92. National Electrical Code - Amendments.
"The Code adopted in Section 11-91 is hereby amended as set out in this
section:
"`Section 210-70(a), Dwelling Unit(s), is hereby amended by deleting the words
"underfloor space" from the second paragraph.
Section 3. That Chapter 11, Article IV, Sections 11-95, 11-99, 11-102 and 11-110 of
the Code of Ordinances, City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the same are hereby, repealed and
declared null and void and of no effect.
Section 4. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty
of a misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $2,000.00, and
each and every day's continuance of any violation of the above enumerated sections shall
constitute and be deemed a separate offense.
Section 5. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby
expressly repealed.
Section 6. This ordinance shall become effective on March 1, 1996.
