97-040 ORD ESTABLISHING MAXIMUM REASONABLE AND PRUDENT RATE OF SPEED IN THE AREA OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC PLACES IN COP ORDINANCE NO. 97-040 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, ESTABLISHING A MAXIMUM, REASONABLE, AND PRUDENT RATE OF SPEED IN THE AREA OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS ON CERTAIN STREETS AND HIGHWAYS AND PUBLIC PLACES IN THE CITY OF PARIS; PROVIDING FOR A FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200.00; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF SEPTEMBER 1, 1997. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: Section 1. That the following maximum, reasonable, and prudent rates of speed be, and the same are hereby, established in the area of public schools on those portions of the street hereinafter described: T. G. GIVENS KINDERGARTEN: On Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive, from the west boundary line of 8th Street N.E. to the east boundary line of 6th Street N.E., a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 2:00 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. AIKEN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: On Pine Mill Road, from the east boundary line of 32nd Street N.E. west a distance of 1640 feet, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour; and, On E. Houston Street, from the east curb line of 31st Street N.E. east to the west curb line of 32nd Street N.E., a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour; and, On Lamar Avenue (BH 82), from the east boundary line of 30th Street N.E., highway Mile Post 10.345, east to the west boundary line of 32nd Street N.E., highway Mile Post 10.545, a speed limit of thirty (30) miles per hour, all of which will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. THOMAS JUSTISS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: On 19th Street N.W. (FM Highway 79), from highway Mile Post 22.014 to highway Mile Post 22.304, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 2:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. CROCKETT MIDDLE SCHOOL: On S. Collegiate Drive, from the south curb line of E. Hubbard Street south to the south curb line of Clark Lane; and, On Clark Lane, from the east curb line of S. Collegiate Drive east to the east curb line of Johnson Woods Drive, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:15 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. 3:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. TRAVIS JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL: On Graham Street, from the west boundary line of 31st Street N.W. to the east boundary line of 34th Street N.W., a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:10 a.m. to 7:55 a.m. 3:20 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. PARIS HIGH SCHOOL: On Jefferson Road (FM Highway 1507), from highway Mile Post 2.215 to highway Mile Post 2.465, a speed limit of thirty (30) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. NORTH LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL: On Stone Avenue, from the east curb line of N. Main Street east to the east curb line of Lewis Lane; and, On Stillhouse Road, 750 feet north of the north boundary line of Loop 286 north a distance of 1000 feet, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour will be effective on school days during the following hours: 7:15 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. 3:10 p.m. to 4:05 p.m. Section 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this ordinance shall be guilty of a Misdemeanor and, upon conviction, shall be fined in any sum not to exceed $200.00, and each and every day's continuance of any violation of the above-enumerated section shall constitute and be deemed a separate offense. Section 3. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby expressly repealed. Section 4. This ordinance shall become effective on September 1, 1997.
