ORDINANCE :N0. 97-057
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, PROVIDING THAT
THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, BE AMENDED BY
ADDING SECTIONS TO BE NUMBERED 26-6, 26-7, AND 26-8 OF SAID CODE;
PROVIDING THE METHOD BY WHICH POLICE OFFICERS RECEIVE LONGEVITY
PAY, ASSIGNMENT PAY, AND C'ERTIFICATION PAY; REPEALING ALL
ORDINANCES OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF DECEMBER 8, 1997.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS:
Section 1. That the Code of Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be, and the
same is hereby, amended by adding sections to be numbered 26-6, 26-7, and 26-8, to read as
follows:
"Sec. 26-6. Assignment Pay
"Members of the police department, with the exception of the head of the
department, shall be entitled to received assignment pay, as permitted in Local
Government Code, Sections 143.041, 143.042, and 143.043, as amended, as
follows:
"(a) Field Training Officer.
"(1) Field Training Officer shall mean a member of the police
department who is assigned to and performs the duties and
responsibilities of the field training officers program.
"(2) The Field Training Officer shall be entitled to compensation
at the rate of $5.00 per day when performing the duties and
responsibilities of the position.
"(3) The assignment pay provided by this section shall be in
addition to the regular pay received by the member or members of
the police department assigned as the Field Training Officer.
(b) Crime Prevention Officer.
"(1) Crime Prevention Officer shall mean a member of the police
department who is assigned to and performs the duties and
responsibilities of the crime prevention officers program.
"(2) The Crime Prevention Officer shall be entitled to
compensation at the rate of $65.00 per pay-period.
"(3) The assignment pay provided by this section shall be in
addition to the regular pay received by the member or members of
the police department assigned as the Crime Prevention Officer.
"(c) Dispatcher Training Officer.
"(1) Dispatcher Training Officer shall mean a member of the
police department who is assigned to and performs the duties and
responsibilities of the dispatcher training officers program.

"(2) The Dispatcher Training Officer shall be entitled to
compensation at the rate of $6.25 per day when performing the
duties and responsibilities of the position.
"(3) The assignment pay provided by this section shall be in
addition to the regular pay received by the member or members of
the police department assigned as the Dispatcher Training Officer.
"(d) K-9 Officer.
"(1) K-9 Officer shall mean a member of the police department
who is assigned to and performs the duties and responsibilities of
the K-9 officers program.
"(2) The K-9 Officer shall be entitled to compensation at the rate
of $50.00 per pay-period when performing the duties and
responsibilities of the position.
"(3) The assignment pay provided by this section shall be in
addition to the regular pay received by the member or members of
the police department assigned as the K-9 Officer.
"Sec. 26-7. Longevity Pay.
"Members of the police department shall be entitled to received longevity pay, as
permitted in Local Government Code, Section 143.041, as amended, at the rate of
$1. 85 per pay-period.
"Sec. 26-8. Certification Pay.
"(1) Members of the police department shall be entitled to receive certification
pay, as permitted in Local Government Code, Sections 143.041 and 143.044, as
amended, as follows:
"(a) Intermediate certificatian - $50.00 per pay-period,
"(b) Advanced certification -$75.00 per pay-period, or
"(c) Masters certification - $92.30 per pay-period.
"(2) The certification pay provided by this section shall be in addition to the
regular pay received by the member or members of the police department
qualifying for the same."
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are expressly
repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall become effective on December 8, 1997.
