~ Promotions Committee - No Report
~ Design Committee - A report was given by Beth Golden for
Barbara Wilson/Suzy Harper. The design committee met
August 3, 2005 to discuss possible plans for the
downtown plaza specifically the area surrounding
Culbertson fountain. The commi ttee agreed that new
benches needed to be placed in the grassy area on each
side of the fountain vs. the knuckles. The committee
agreed that lighting in the trees is desirable, as well
as new trash receptacles. A full report is on file.
Main Street Coordinator is working through the plan and
a follow up meeting should be scheduled soon.
» Economic Restructuring Committee - No Report
Report from MS Coordinator:
Light Pole Banners - DTG should be shipping banners this week. Attachments included.

Block Captains for Plaza - This task was delegated to the organizational committee. Main
Street Coordinator gave the chair of this committee some suggestions. Barbara
recommended that we go beyond the actual square to build this. This will ensure everyone
knows about such things as courthouse dedication, pumpkin festival, landscaping, etc.
(Organizational Committee)
Anice Read Grant for Signage - Won't make the deadline for this grant. The information
was forwarded to the organizational committee chair for review and possible action next
year. This grant can be used for different things - the organizational committee needs to
identify a use. Collaborating with Visionaries is a good idea - need to work together to get
things accomplished. (Organizational Committee)
Main Street Items For DistributionlMarketing - Main Street Coordinator passed around a
magnet as a great example of promotion of local farmer's market. Promotion committee
will work on. Linda Suarez Knox reminded me that my flyers for downtown are on
Marvin Gorley's computer? Need to track those down for chamber. Barbara Wilson
recommended plastic bags that say Main Street. (Promotion Committee)
Courthouse Re-Dedication Ceremonies - Main Street will sell sodas and water as
fundraiser for Main Street. Volunteers needed for set up of tables and chairs around the
fountain. Main Street Coordinator has also contacted a barbecue vendor for food sales.
Pocket Park - Gave a report on how Waxahachie funded their park. They sold brick
pavers, obtained grants, got public/private donations and had much in-kind donations
made. Their entire cost was $215,000.00.
Truck Ordinance - Will take effect after new budget goes into effect October 1, 2005.
Organizational committee needs to follow up within the next quarter to ensure this is done.
Walt suggested that Campbell Soup, Kimberly Clark, etc. put up signs that direct people to
them on the outsides of the Loop. He reported that truck drivers stop at Gene Roden's to
get directions because they are trying to get to these destinations. (Organizational
Committee)
Market Square Facelifts - Walt volunteered to help head this committee - which is a part
of the promotions committee (headed by BGolden). Would like to focus our efforts on
next year because this year's market is coming to an end.
Linda Suarez Knox would like for Main Street Coordinator to inform her of all events.
Walt asked if we could send her artwork, pictures as well and she said she was interested.
Discussed logo as well. Walt passed around an example of a logo that he and Jennifer
Long had been sketching. This is something that needs to be passed on to a committee for
final approval and presentation to the Advisory Board. (Promotions Committee).
