2497 ORD PROVIDING CODE OF ORDINANCES BE AMENDED BY REVISING SECTIONS 28-3 AND 28-4 OF SAID CODE
ORDINANCE NO. 2497
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS,
PROVIDING THAT THE CODE OF ORDINANCES, CITY OF PARIS,
PARIS, TEXAS, BE AMENDED BY REVISING SECTIONS 28-3 AND
28-4 OF SAID CODE; PROVIDING FOR A RESIDENCE HOMESTEAD
EXEMPTION FOR THE ELDERLY; REPEALING ALL ORDINANCES
OR PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND
PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE OF APRIL 14, 1980.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PARIS:
Section l. That Sections 28 -3 and 28 -4 of the Code of
Ordinances of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, be amended so
that such shall read as follows:
"Sec. 28 -3. Exemption from ad valorem taxes.
Upon compliance with all requirements of this
article and all other applicable laws and ordinances,
Seventeen thousand dollars ($17, 000. 00) of the
assessed value of residence homesteads of persons
sixty-five (65) years of age or older shall be exempt
from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Paris.
Sec. 28-4. Effective date of exemption.
The exemption authorized in Section 28 -3 shall be
effective as to such residence homesteads as may
qualify hereunder from and after January 1, 1980.
Eligibility for such exemption shall be determined
each year as of January first of such year. "
Section 2. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict
herewith are hereby expressly repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall become effective on
April 14, 1980.
