RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Non-action item. Update on use of the old Police Department Building.
POLICY ISSUE(S):
Asset Management
At the last Council meeting, direction was sought on the possibility of renovating and using the old
Police Department Building for the Health Department. As you know from the recent tour, the current
Health Department building is in a deteriorated state. The Council requested that information regarding
renovating the old Police Department Building verses demolishing the building and constructing a new
facility for the Health Department be provided for their review. A spreadsheet showing rough estimates
of the cost of both options is being provided.
In view of the cost estimates, the Council should also explore other suitable and existing buildings for
use by the Health Department that could be remodeled for less money and just demolish the old Police
Department building.
If the Council chooses to go forward with one of the options, the County should be contacted about
participating in this major capital project since they are in the very early stages of their budget process.
Other sources of funds (private and public) could also be considered in the planning stage of this project.
