AN ORDINANCE SETTING A DATE, TIME AND PLACE FOR A
PUBLIC HEARING ON THE PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF CERTAIN
PROPERTY BY THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, AND AUTHORIZ-
ING A.ND DIRECTING THE MAYOR TO PUBLISH NOTICE OF SUCH
PUBLIC HEARING.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PAR IS:
Section 1. That on the 8th day of October, 1973, at 7:00 o'clock
P. M. , in the City Council Room of the City Hall of the City of Paris,
Paris, Texas, the City Council will hold a public hearing giving all
interested persons the right to appear and to be heard on the pro-
posed annexation by the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, of the following
described property:
TRACT l: Situated in the County of Lamar and State
of Texas, a part of the John W. Williams, John Skidmore,
R. G. Miller, William Scott, and H. B. Davis Surveys, and
described as follows:
BEGINNING at a point 50 feet North of F. M. Highway
No. 1508 C/L Sta. 35+70. 3, and being in the City Limits line
described by City Ordinance No. 2162, dated August 13, 1973;
THENCE N 80 ° 30' E parallel and 50 feet North of said
Highway C/L a distance of 442. 0 feet to a point, said point
being 50 feet North of F. M. Highway No. 1508 C/L Sta.
40+12. 3 and the beginning of a curve to the right, which has

442 feet to a point. Said point being 50 feet South of
Highway No. 1508 C/L Sta. 35+70. 3, also bei ng the City
Limits Line described by Ordinance No. 2162, dated
August 13, 1973;

the place of beginning, containing in all 1544. 45 acres,
of which 1539. 46 acres is owned by the City of Paris.
TRACT 2: That part of the following described
property not included within the corporate limits of the
City of Paris, which is described as follows:
A part of the Joseph Leach Survey, Lamar County,
Texas, and being a tract of land now owned by I<ay and
Wayne Brown.
BEGINNING at a stake for corn er in the East
Boundary Line of Loop Highway 286 at the North Boundary
Line of a 25. 68 acre tract of land conveyed J. L. Jopling
by deed recorded in Vol. 290, Page 581, of the Deed
Records of said County and State.
THENCE East a distance of 767 ft. to a stake for
corner at the Northeast corner of said Jopling tract of land;
THENCE South a distance of 720 ft. to a stake for
corner;

That part of the above described tract being annexed
contains 3. 67 acres of land.
Section 2. That the Mayor of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas,
is hereby authorized and directed to cause notice of such public hear-
ing to be published once in the newspaper having general circulation
in the City and in the above described territory not more than twenty
(20) days nor less than ten (10) days prior to the date of such public
hearing, all in accordance with the Municipal Annexation Act (Chapter
160, Acts of the 58th Legislature, Regular Sessio4 1963; compiled as
Article 970a, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes).
Section 3. It is hereby declared to be the intention of the City
Council of the City of Paris that the sections, paragraphs, sentences,
clauses and phrases of this ordinance are severable, and if any
phrase, clause, sentence, paragraph or section of this ordinance shall
be declared unconstitutional or invalid by the valid j udgment or decree
of any court of competent jurisdiction, such unconstitutionality or in-
validy shall not affect any of the remaining phrases, clauses, sentences,
paragraphs and sections of this ordinance, since the same would have
been enacted by the City Council without the incorporation in this or-
dinance of any unconstitutional or invalid phrases, clauses, sentences,
paragraphs or sections. It is further hereby declared to be the inten-
tion of the City Council of the City of Paris to exclude any area or
areas described in the description of the property to be annexed, which
are not within said City's jurisdiction to annex and that such area or
areas should be carved out of the description of the property herein
described by the valid j udgment or decree of any court of competent
jurisdiction, in order that such area or areas would not cause this
annexation ordinance to be found to be invalid, voidable or void.
Section 4. This ordinance shall take effect immediately upon
passage.
