<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1406, ARTICLE VIII,
<br />SECTION l, AND ORDINANCE NO. 1851, SECTION 1(a), OF THE CITY OF
<br />PARIS, DECREASING THE SPEED LIMITS FROM 30 MILES PER HOUR TO 20
<br />MILES PER HOUR ON CERTAIN PORTIONS OF THE FOLLOfn£ING STREETS:
<br />NEATHERY STREET, FROM THE E. B. LINE OF 13TH STREET, S. E. TO
<br />THE W, B. LINE OF 17TH STREET, S. E.; EAST HEARON STREET, FROM
<br />THE E. B. LINE OF 13TH STREET, S. E. TO THE W. B. I,INE OF 17TH
<br />STREET, S. Eo; AND 13TH STREET, S. Ea, FROM THE S. B. LINE OF
<br />NEATHERY STREET TO THE N. B. LINE OF EAST GV:4SHINGTON STREET;
<br />PROVIDING FOR A.FINE NOT TO EXCEED $200.00; REPEALING ALL
<br />ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HEREWITH; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE
<br />DA.TE OF MAY 271 1968,
<br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS:
<br />Section 1, That Ordinanc.e No, 1406, Article VIII, Section
<br />1, and Ordinance No. 1851, Section 1(a), of the City of Paris, be
<br />amended as follows:
<br />(a) State Speed Laws Applicable. The State traffic laws
<br />regulating the speed of vehicles (P.C, 827a, Regulating oper ation
<br />of vehicles on highways, Secti.on 8, Rate and speed of vehicles, )
<br />shall be applicable upon all streets within this city, except as
<br />this ordinance, as authorized by State law (P,C. 827a, Section 8,
<br />Subsection 3.), hereby declares and determines upon the basis of
<br />engineering and traffic invest:igation that certain speed regula-
<br />tions shall be applicable upon specified streets or in certain
<br />areas, in which event it shall be prima facie unlawful for any
<br />person to drive a vehicle at a speed in excess of any speed so
<br />declared in this ordinance when signs are in place giving notice
<br />the reof ,
<br />Section 2, Decreasin State S eed Limit in Certain Zones
<br />From Thirtv (30) Miles per Hour to Twenty 20) Miles per Hour.
<br />It is hereby determined upon the basis of an engineering and
<br />traffic investigation that the speed permitted by State law upon
<br />the following streets is more than is necessary for safe opera«
<br />tion of vehicles thereon by reason of the designation and sign-
<br />posting of said streets, and that by reason of the fact that the
<br />areas of the streets hereinafter described are in the immediate
<br />vicinity of a public recreation area, to-wit: Culbertson Park;
<br />and the speeds are fixed as follows:
<br />(a) On Neathery Street, from the E. B. Line of 13th
<br />Street, S. E. to the W. B. Line of 17th Street,
<br />S. E., a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour.
<br />(b) On East Hearon Street, from the E. B. Line of 13th
<br />Street, S. E. to the InT. B. Line of 17th Street,
<br />S. Eo, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour.
<br />(c) On 13th Street, S. Ea, from the S. B. Line of
<br />Neather y Street to the N. B. Line of East Washington
<br />Street, a speed limit of twenty (20) miles per hour.
<br />Section 3, That any person violating the provisions of this
<br />ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction
<br />shall be fined in a sum not exceeding Two Hundred ($200.00)
<br />Dollars.
<br />Section 4. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in con-
<br />flict herewith are hereby repealed.
<br />Section 5. This ordinance shall become effective on May 27,
<br />1968,
