AN ORDINANCE AMENI`JING ORDINANCE NO. 1508a PROVIDING FOR
THE DELETION OF SECTION 54 THEREOF, PROVIDING FOR AN ALTER-
NATIVE TO OAKUM AND MOLTEN LEAD JOINTS TO CAST IRON AND
BETWEEN BRASS AND CAST IRON, PROVIDING FOR REGULATION OF
VENTS OVER COOKING APPLIANCES, AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFEC-
TIVE DATE,
BE IT ORDAINED BY-THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
PARIS, TEXAS:

Section 1. That Ordinance No. 1508 be amended by deleting there-
from Section 54 and adding thereto the following:
5ection 54. (a) All joints in cast iron pipes, fittings and
connections to cast iron, and between brass and cast iron,
shall be made with picked oakum and molten lead. Lead
joints shall be at least one (1) inch in depth, well calked
or joints in cast iron pipes, fittings, and connections can
be of a positive seal elastomeric compression-type joint
which are sealed by deformation of a one-piece gasket.
When the joint is made, a positive seal is effected by the
compression of the elastomer between the external face of
the spigot and the internal face of the hub. The com-
pression-type joint shall meet the same test requirement
minimums as that for lead and oakum.
-That all cooking appliances, gas, or electric, where hoods
and exhaust
fans are erected over the appliance for the removal of odors, gases, or
fumes, shall meet the following regulations:
. Vents should be constructed of incombustible,
non-corro ble material of sufficient thickness, cross sectional
area, and heat insulating quality to avoid temperatures in ex.-
cess of 160 degrees Fahrenheit on adjacent material when lo-
cated inside of partitions, walls, or extending through com-
bustible walls, floors, ceiling or roof. Such vents shall be
continuous from the inlet for appliance connection to at least
twelve (12) inches above the roof line of the structure. Vent
size shall be equal to the area of the outlet on the appliance
to be vented. When more than one appliance is connected to
the same vent, the area of the vent shall be equal to the area
of the largest outlet of any appliance vented plus fifty (50)
per cent of the total area of the outlets of additional appli-
ances vented. The minimum size of any vent shall not be
less than 2 1/4 inches. The top of vent above the roof shall
have an approved rain cap.
Section Z. This ordinance shall become effective immediately upon
passage.
Section 3. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby repealed.
