1566 ORD AMENDING ORDINANCE NO 1495 OF COPORI37NANCE NO, 1566 , AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1495 OF THE CITY OF PARIS; REGULATIlVG THE SPEED OF MOTOR VEHICLES UPON CERTAIN STREETS IN THE CITY OF PARIS, LAMAR GOUNTY9 TEXAS; PRESCRIBING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION HEREOF; REPEALIIVG ALL ORDTNANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLICT HERE- WITH; AND PROVIDIlVG AN EFFECTIVE DATE, WHEREAS, an engineering survey has been made of the area around the Paris High School, on Eaet Houston Street, from 3rd Street, N. E. to 6th Street, N. E. ; and from 6th Street, N. E. to East Price Street; and from East Price Street to 3rd Street, N. E. ; and on 3rd Street, N. E. to East Houston Street, as to the traffic condition and the congestion on said area; and, WHER.EAS, it is to the interest and safety of the parents and students of said school that said speed limit be reduced; NOW,, THERE- FORE, BE IT ORDAIlVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,, TEXASe Section 1. Decreaaing Speed Limit in Gerta.in Areas. It is hereby determined on the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation that the speed limit permitted by the laws of the Sta.te of Texas upon the streets hereinafter mentioned is more tha.n is necesaary for safe opera- tion of vehicles thereon, by reason of the designation and signposting of said street, and that by reason of the fact that the areas of the streets hereinafter described are in the immediate vicinity of the principal high school in the City of Paris. Section 2, It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or drive any motor or other vehicle upon East Houston Street, between 3rd Street, N. E. and 6th Street, N. Ea ; and on 6th Street, N. E„ between East Houston Street and East Price Street; and on East Price Street, from 6th Street, N. E. to 3rd Street, N. E. ; and on 3rd Street, N. E., from East Price Street to East Houston 5treet, at a greater rate of speed than twenty (20) miles per hour. Section 3. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be punished by a fine not exceeding Two Hundred ($200, 00) Dollars. Section 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict here- with are hereby expressly repealed. Section 5. This ordinance shall become effective on the 25th day of October, A. D., 1961.
