AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 1495 OF THEQTY OF
PAR]S, TEXAS, PASSED BY THE CITY GOUNCIL ON THE 9TH DAY OF
NOVEMBER, A. D., 1959, REGULATING THE SPEED OF MOTOR VEHI-
CLES UPON THE STREETS OF THE CITY OF PARZS, LAMAR COUNTY,
TEXAS; PRE5CRIBING THE PENALTY FOR VIOLATION HEREOF; AND
REPEALIlVG ALL ORDINANCES AND PARTS OF ORDINANCES IN CONFLIC T
HEREyV'TT'H; AND PROVID]NG AN EFFECTNE DATE.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARZS:
Section 1. It is hereby determined on the basis of an engineering and
traffic investigation made by the Traffic Division of the Highway Depart-
ment of the 5ta.te of Texas that the speed permitted by the laws of the
5tate of Texas upon the streets hereinafter mentioned is less than i.s neces-
sary for safe operation of vehicles thereon, by reason of the designation and
signposting of said streets as through highways, and that a necessity exists
for making certa.in changes in the speed liznits fixed in Ordinance No. 1495.
Section Z. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or drive any
motor or other vehicle upon the public streets of the City of Pa.r is, Texa s,
at a rate o f speed in exces s of thirty (30) miles an hour, which maxixnum
speed limit shall be applicable upon all the streets within said City, except
as herein s pecified and provided for certa.in des ignated streets a nd portions
of streets.
5ection 3. It shall be unlawful for any person to operate or drive any
motor or other vehicle at a rate of speed in exces s of that spec ified for
the following streets and portions of streets.
(a) On Bonham St. (U.5. 82) easterly from the West City Limits of
Paris, a dista.nce of approximately 0.655 miles a speed limit of forty (40)
miles per hour at all times as evidenced by the attached plan which is here-
by approved and made a part hereof.
(b) On Lamar Ave. (U.S. 82) westerly from the East City Limits of
Paris, a distance of approximately 0.513 mi.les a speed limit of fifty (50)
miles per hour at all ti.mes; thence westerly a distance of approxi.mately
0.460 miles a speed limit of forty-five (45) miles per hour at all times;
thence westerly a dista.nce of approximately 0. 260 miles a speed limit cf
forty (40) miles per hour at all times; thence westerly a distance of approxi-
mately 0.587 miles a speed limit of thirty-five (35) miles per hour at all
times as evidenced by the attached plan which is hereby approved and made
a part hereof.
(c) On Clarksville St. (U.S. 271) westerly from the Southeast City
Limits of Paris, a dista.nce of approximately 0. 998 miles a spee d limit of
fifty (50) miles per hour at all times; thence westerly a distance of approxi-
mately 0.397 miles a speed li.mit of forty (40) miles per hour at all times
as evidenced by the attached plan which is hereby approved and made a part
hereof.
(d) On North Main St. (U,S. 271) southerly from the North City Limits
of Paris, a distance o f approx imate ly 0.200 mile s a sp eed limit o f fi.fty
(50) miles per hour at all times; thence southerly a dista.nce of approximately
0, 641 miles a speed limit of forty (40) miles per h our a t all times; thenc e
southerly a distance of approxi.mately 0.535 miles a speed limit of thirty-
five (35) miles per hour at all times as evidenced by the atta.ched plan which
is hereby approved and made a part hereof.
(e) On 2 Oth Sto N. E. (Fe M. 195) southerly from the Northeast City
Limits of Pa.ris, a distance of approximately 0.901 miles a speed limit of
forty (40) miles per hour at all times a s eviden ced b y the attached plan
which is hereby approved and made a part hereof.
5ection 4. Any pereon violating any of the provisions of this ordinance
shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction, shall be
punished by a fine not exceeding Two Hundred ($200. 00) Dollar s,
Section 5, All ordina.nces and parts of ordinances in conflict herewith
are hereby expressly repealed.
Section 6. This ord i.nance s hall b ecome effective on the 2-5th day of
