03-A Library Board MinutesPARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD JUNE 20, 2001 MINUTES The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present:, John Howison, Anna Davis, Nancee Salzman, Fran Neeley, Rogene Patterson, and Curtis Fendley. Absent were Sarah Gambill and Walter Williams. Callie Thompson, new Friends President and Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Library Director, were also present. The May 16, 2001, Minutes were approved as distributed. The Budget Report was distributed and is target with budget expenditures. Fran Neeley noted that the budget year ends September 30. The Statistical Report was distributed. It showed in May there was an increase in circulation of 7.14 over the same month last year. The library showed a 36.3 percent increase in reference assistance, and again the largest increase in Electronic Reference Assistance with 459 percent. Both increases are over the same month from last year. Linda Orr, Children's Outreach Coordinator, gave a summary o£the Mobile Library Summer Program to the board. This year there are 9 sites including the addition of the Boys' and Girls' Club. She has an average of 20 children at the sites with Brookston bcing the smallest. In Children's Services there were 19 programs with 325 children and 82 adults in attendance, which is down from last month. The Adult Outreach service visited 14 sites, distributed 1,264 books, 317 audio books, 386 videos, and 66 magazines. In other statistics, there were 43 interlibrary loans in May; and 20 memorial/gill contributions for a total of $450. In Unfinished Business it was noted that since the library does not receive Federal funds it was not required under the Child lnternet Protection Act to install filtering software on thc Internet computers. Also Jackie Alsobrook reported on the presentation of the "Purple Heart" book from the Purple Heart Veterans group. The book will be available to check out from the library. Mrs. Alsobrook also mentioned talking with the City Manager and that he has been interviewing candidates for the position of Library Director. Library- Advisory Board Minutes June 20, 2001 Page 2 Friends President Callie Thompson reported that $1800 was made from the spring luncheon and that the Wal-Mart Foundation had given $500 for a total of $2300. The fall luncheon is planned for Monday, October 1, 2001, at Paris Golf and Country Club. Dave Tanner will return to present a program on "Big Band" music. Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Director informed the board that Leigh Igo had been selected lbr the position left vacant by Pamela Sidnell. That will leave a position at the Circulation Desk vacant, which hopefully will be filled soon.
