04-A Library Board MinutesPARIS PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD July 18, 2001 MINUTES The Paris Public Library Advisory Board met in regular session Wednesday, June 20, 2001, at 4 PM in the Library with Chairman Jackie Alsobrook presiding and these members present:, John Howison, Anna Davis, Nancee Salzman, and Rogene Patterson. Absent were Sarah Gambill, Fran Neeley, Walter Williams and Curtis Fendley. Callie Thompson, Friends President and Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Library Director, were also present. The June 20, 2001, Minutes were approved as distributed. The Budget Report was distributed and is target with budget expenditures. It was noted that utilities was the only targeted worry. The Statistical Report was distributed. It showed in June there was an decrease in circulation of 1.1% over the same month last year. The library showed a 33.2 percent increase in reference assistance, and again the largest increase in Electronic Reference Assistance with 417 percent. Also there was a decrease in patron visits of 2.1 percent from the same month last year. Mobile Library Summer Program in June gave 36 programs with a total attendence of 319. It was noted that the Boys' and Girls' Club is the site with the largest attendence. Emily Kirkman, Children's Librarian, gave the her report to Board concerning the Summer Reading Club. Programs at given on Tuesdays and Wednesdays to kids in grades 1 to 6; and on Thursday a program is presented to kids ages 3, 4 and 5. The programs include a story, crafts and games and prizes are awarded to all the participants. The program had an average of 32 kids per program during the 12 programs given in June. Memorial donations were up in June to 34 from 20 the previous month. In New Business the Nominating of Officers Committee ~vill meet after today's (July 18) Board meeting to present a new slate of officers at the next meeting. Jackie Alsobrook, John Howison and Rogene Patterson are the members of the committee. Library Advisory Board Minutes July 18, 2001 Page 2 Rogene Patterson recommended Peggy Guthrie to replace her on the Advisory Board; and Jackie Alsobrook presented Vicki Terlap's name for her replacement on the Board. Mrs. Guthrie is a retired high school Spanish teacher; and Mrs. Terlap is a mother of 3, whose husband works at Kimberly-Clark. Both ladies are library users and supporters. Callie Thompson, Friends' President, did not have a report for the Board. Priscilla McAnally, Assistant Director, informed the Board that the new director, Betty Landon, would be present at the next Board meeting. Ms. Landon's first official day in the Library would be August 7. Also that the Paula Rater had been hired to fill the part- time position of Clerk I and that her first day would be July 31. The meeting was adjourned at 4:37 p.m. The next Board meeting will be Wednesday, August 15 at 4 p.m. in the Library. Rogene Patterson Date Approved
