2096 RES ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS OF WARDS 4, 5 AND 7 OF COPRESOLUTION NO. 2096 ,
WHEREAS, an election was held by the qual.ified voters of
Wards 4, 5 and 7 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 4th
day of April, 1981, for the purpose of vot.ing for and electing the
Councilmen from each of said Wards to serve as members of the
City Council for the ensuing two (2) years, to-wit:
1. Councilman From Ward Four (4)
2. Councilman From Ward Five (5)
3. Councilman From Ward Seven (7)
WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the
United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris D.ivision, in
Civil Action No. P-75-3-CA, and as provided in the Charter of the
City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do
not conflict with said Order, such election was conducted and held
at three (3) spec.ified and designated polling places, that is, one
polling place in Wards 4, 5 and 7 of the City of Paris, Paris,
Texas; and,
WHEREAS, sealed returns of said elect.ion, made by the duly
appointed and designated election officials of and for the three (3)
respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns
after due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the
following results of said election, to-wit:
(1) IN WARD FOUR (4) A TOTAL OF 56 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD FOUR (4) AS FOLLOWS:
Thomas B. (Skip) Steely, Jr. 18 votes;
Joe Graham votes;
Write-In Candidates votes.
(2) IN WARD FIVE (5) A TOTAL OF 72 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD FIVE (5) AS FOLLOWS:
W. C. Francis 55 votes;
Bill Powers IT- votes;
Write-In Candidates -U votes.
(3) IN WARD SEVEN (7) A TOTAL OF 176 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD SEVEN (7) AS FOLLOWS:
Larry P. McGee 89 votes;
Mrs. Sammie DeJarnatt votes;
James R. Holland 11 votes;
Paul Wood 8 votes;
Chester E. Martindale votes;
Write-In Candidates T- votes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That from the above and fore-
going canvass of the returns of the votes in the three (3) respec-
tive voting boxes in such election, it .is declared and determined
that Joe Graham is the person receiving the highest number of
votes of the votes cast at such election for Counc.ilman From
Ward Four (4), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman
From Ward Four (4) and as a member of the C.ity Council of the
City of Par.is for the ensuing two (2) years; that W. C. Francis is
the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast
at such election for Councilman From Ward Five (5), and is there-
fore elected to serve as Councilman Frum Ward F.ive (5) and as a
member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing
two (2) years; and that Larry P. McGee is the person receiving the
highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for
Councilman From Ward Seven (7), and is therefore elected to serve
as Councilman From Ward Seven (7) and as a member of the C.ity
Council of the C.ity of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Paris
in special session convened pursuant to the directions of the City
Charter of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on this the 15th day of
April, 1981.
