2047 RES BANK STABILIZATION AND NAVIGATION ON RED RIVER FROM INDEX, ARK TO DENISON DAMRESOLUTION NO. 2047 ,
WHEREAS, bank stabilization and navigation on Red River
from Index, Arkansas to Denison Dam would be of major benefit
to the entire area of Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma and
Southwest Arkansas; and,
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers has made a study of
bank stabilization and now a proposal is being made to urge
Congress to make a restudy for bank stabilization and navigation;
and,
WHEREAS, it will be necessary for each State involved to
sign assurances with the Corps of Engineers for the State's
share of the cost; and,
WHEREAS, the Red River Authority has been created by
the Legislature and has ample authority to negotiate and sign
contracts with the Corpos of Engineers; and,
WHEREAS, Bowie County, Red River County and Lamar
County were not included in the legislative act; and,
WHEREAS, it would be advisable for the three counties to
be included whereby the Red River Authority could negotiate and
sign assurances with the Corps of Engineers to realize the ulti-
mate completion of bank stabilization and navigation on Red River
from Index, Arkansas to Denison Dam; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PARIS, That the Legislature of the State of Texas be urged
and requested to amend the act creating the Red River Authority
to include Bowie, Red River and Lamar Counties.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution
be sent to Senator Ed Howard and Representatives Hamp Atkinson
and L. P. (Pete) Patterson, and other interested parties.
