2024 RES ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS OF WARDS 1, 2, 3 AND 6RESOLUTION N0. 2~24 .
WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of
Wards l, 2, 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 5th
day of April, 1980, for the purpose of voting for and electing the
Councilmen from each of said Wards to serve as members of the
City Council for the ensuing two (2) years, to-wit:
l. Councilman From Ward One (1)
2. Councilman From Ward Two (2)
3. Councilman From Ward Three (3)
4. Councilman From Ward Six (6)
WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the
United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in
Civil Action No. P-75-3~CA, and as provided in the Charter of the
City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do
not conflict with said Order, such election was conducted and held
at four (4) specif.ied and designated poll.ing places, that is, one
polling place in Wards l, 2, 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris,
Texas; and,
WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly
appointed and designated election officials of and for the four (4)
respect.ive voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns
after due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the
following results of said election, to-wit:
(1) IN WARD ONE (1) A TOTAL OF 44 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD NE (1) AS FOLLOWS:
Travis Wortham ~3 votes;
Write-In Candidates 1 votes.
(2) IN WARD TWO (2) A TOTAL OF ~2 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD TWO (2) AS FOLLOWS:
Addie J. Bufford 73 votes;
Robert L. Boone ~9- votes;
Write~In Candidates 0 votes.
(3) IN WARD THREE (3) A TOTAL OF 186 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD THREE (3) AS FOLLOWS:
Billy Joe Burnett 110 votes;
Gene W. McWaters, Sr. ~ votes;
Write~In Candidates votes.
(4) IN WARD SIX (6) A TOTAL OF 263 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD SIX (6) AS FOLLOWS:
J. D, Mills, Jr. 128 votes;
Kenneth E. Kohls 135 votes;
Write~In Candidates 0 votes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That from the above and fore-
going canvass of the returns of the votes in the four (4) respec-
tive voting boxes in such election, it is declared and determined
that Travis Wortham is the person receiving the highest number
of votes of the votes cast at such election for Counc.ilman From
Ward One (1), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman
From Ward One (1) and as a member of the City Council of the
City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; that Addie J. Bufford
is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes
cast at such election for Councilman From Ward Two (2), and is
therefore elected to serve as Councilman From Ward Two (2) and
as a member of the C.ity Council of the City of Paris for the en-
suing two (2) years; that Billy Joe Burnett is the person receiving
the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for
Councilman From Ward Three (3), and is therefore elected to
serve as Councilman From Ward Three (3) and as a member of
the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years;
and that Kenneth E. Kohls is the person rece.iving the highest
number of votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman
From Ward Six (6), and is therefore elected to serve as
Councilman From Ward Six (6) and as a member of the City
Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Paris
in special session convened pursuant to the d.irections of the City
Charter of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on this the 16th day of
Apr.il, 1980.
