1802 RES ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS OF WARDS 4, 5 AND 7RESOLUTION NOp 1802 ,
WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of
Wards 4, 5 and 7 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 2nd
day of April, 1977, for the purpose of voting for and electing
the Councilmen from each of said Wards to serve as members
of the City Council for the ensuing two (2) years, to-wit:
l. Councilman From Ward Four (4)
2. Councilman From Ward Five (5)
3. Councilman From Ward Seven (7)
WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of
the United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division,
in Civil Action No. P-75-3-CA, and as provided in the Charter of
the City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they
do not conflict with said Order, such election was conducted and
held at three (3) specified and designated polling places, that is,
one polling place in Warc~ 4, 5 and 7 of the City of Paris, Paris,
Texas; and,
WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly
appointed and designated election officials of and for the three (3)
respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City
Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which returns
after due and ~eliberate review and c~nvass thereof, show the
following results of said election, to-wit:
(1) IN WARD FOUR (4) A TOTAL OF 282 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD F UR (4) AS FOLLOWS:
Michael E. Malone 221 votes;
Ben M. Hinds ~l votes;
David Thomas 19 votes;
James E, Lynch, Jr. 9 votes;
Write~In Candidates ~ votes.
(2) IN WARD FIVE (5) A TOTAL OF 167 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD FIVE (5) AS FOLLOWS:
Curtis R, Fendley 63 votes;
W. C. Francis 23 votes;
David Philley votes;
Write~In Candidates 0 votes.
(3) IN WARD SEVEN (7) A TOTAL OF 228 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD SEVEN (7) AS FOLLOWS:
Raymond S. Wunsch 136 votes;
Freddy Swaim 92 votes;
Write~In Candidates p votes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That from the above and foregoing canvass
of the returns of the votes in the three (3) respective voting boxes
in such election, it is declared and determ.ined that Michael E. Malone
is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes
cast at such election for Councilman From Ward Four (4), and is
therefore elected to serve as Councilman From Ward Four (4)
and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the
ensuing two (2) years; that David Philley is the person receiving
the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for
Councilman From Ward Five (5), and is therefore elected to serve
as Councilman From Ward Five (5) and as a member of the City
Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; and that
Raymond S. Wunsch is the person receiving the highest number of
votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From Ward
Seven (7), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From
Ward Seven (7) and as a member of the City Council of the City
of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Paris
in special session convened pursuant to the directions of the City
Charter of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on this the 13th day of
April, 1977.
