1859 RES ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS OF WARDS 1, 2, 3 AN 6RESOLUTION N0, 1859 ,
WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of Wards
l, 2, 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the lst day of
April, 1978, for the purpose of voting for and electing the Councilmen
from each of said Wards to serve as members of the City Council for
the ensuing two (2) years, to-wit;
l. Councilman From Ward One (1)
2. Councilman From Ward Two (2)
3. Councilman From Ward Three (3)
4. Counci iman From Ward Six (6)
WHEREAS, as required by Order of the District Court of the
United States for the Eastern District of Texas, Paris Division, in
Civil Action No. P~75~3-CA, and as provided in the Charter of the
City of Paris and the laws of the State of Texas wherein they do not
confl.ict with said Order, such election was conducted and held at four
(4) specified and designated polling places, that is, one polling place
in Wards l, 2, 3 and 6 of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas; and,
WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly
appointed and designated election officials of and for the four (4) re-
spective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City Council
of the City of Paris, as required by 1aw, which returns after due and
deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the following results of
said election, to~wit:
(1) IN WARD ONE (1) A TOTAL OF 76 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD ~NE (1) AS FOLLOWS:
George Fisher, Jr. 74 votes;
Write-In Candidates votes.
(2) IN WARD TWO (2) A TOTAL OF 164 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD TWO (2) AS FOLLOWS:
La Doris West 7 votes;
jerry Johnson vo~es;
F. D. Mallory III 18 votes;
Walter F. Williams 77 votes;
Write-In Candidates votes.
(3) IN WARD THREE (3) A TOTAL OF ~02 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD THREE (3) AS FOLLOWS:
Gene W. McWaters, Sr. 65 votes;
Bil1y J. Burnett 9~- votes;
Jimmy Don Stone - votes;
Write-In Candidates 1 votes.
(4) IN WARD S IX (6) A TOTAL OF 335 VOTES WERE CAST
FOR COUNCILMAN FROM WARD SIX~6) AS FOLLOWS:
James W. Farris 321 votes;
Write-In Candidates votes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That from the above and foregoing canvass
of the returns of the votes in the four (4) respective voting boxes in
such election, it is declared and determined that George Fisher, Jr.
is the person receiving the highest number of votes of the votes cast
at such election for Councilman From Ward One (1), and is therefore
elected to serve as Councilman From Ward One (1) and as a member
of the City Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years;
that Walter F. Williams is the person receiving the highest number of
votes of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From Ward
Two (2), and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From Ward
Two (2) and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for
the ensuing two (2) years; that Billy J. Burnett is the person receiving
the highest number of votes of the votes cast at such election for
Councilman From Ward Three (3), and is therefore elected to serve
as Councilman From Ward Three (3) and as a member of the City
Council of the City of Paris for the ensuing two (2) years; and that
James W. Farris is the person receiving the highest number of votes
of the votes cast at such election for Councilman From Ward Six (6),
and is therefore elected to serve as Councilman From Ward Six (6)
and as a member of the City Council of the City of Paris for the en-
suing two (2) years.
Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Paris in
special session convened pursuant to the directions of the City Charter
of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on this the 12th day of April, 1978.
