1630 RES ORDERING SPECIAL ELECTION ON 4TH TUESDAY IN OCTOBER 1974RESOLUTION NO. 1630 . A RESOLUTION ORDERING A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE FOURTH TUESDAY IN OCTOBER, 1974, SAME BEING THE 22ND DAY OF OCTOBER, 1974, BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 8:00 O' CLOCK A. M. AND 7:00 O' CLOCK P. M. , BY THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE CITY OF PARIS, PARIS, TEXAS, FOR THE PURPOSE OF DETERMINING WHETHER AN AMOUNT NOT LESS THAN $3, 000 OF THE ASSESSED VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS OF PERSONS 65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER SHALL BE EXEMPT FROM AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY THE CITY OF PARIS. BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS: Section l. That a special election be held by the qualified voters of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the fourth Tuesday in October, 1974, same being the 22nd day of October, 1974, between the hours of 8:00 0' clock A. M. and 7:00 0' clock P. M. , for the pur - pose of determining whether an amount not less than $3, 000 of the assessed value of residence homesteads of persons 65 years of age or older shall be exempt from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Paris, as provided in Article 8, Section 1-b, of the Constitution of the State of Texas. Section 2. 'Ihat the polling places and election officials of such election shall be as follows: Ward One (1): Polling Place: Paris Junior College Clarksville Street at 24th Street, S. E. Officials: Mr. W. J. Johnson , Presiding Judge Mrs. John Hol je , Judge Ward Two (2): Polling Place: Oak Park United Methodist Church 2515 Bonham Street Officials: Mrs. Elizabeth Tompkins , Presiding Judge Mrs. Elmer Dement , Judge Ward Three (3): Polling Place: Calvary Assembly of God Church 240 19th Street, N. W. Officials: Mrs. Margaret Biard , Presiding Judge Mrs. Hanna Shaeffer , Judge Ward Four (4): Polling Place: First Christian Church 780 20th Street, N. E. Officials: Mr. Richard Norman , Presiding Judge Mrs. Sam Ausmus , Judge Section 3. The Presiding Judge of the respective voting boxes shall designate and appoint such additional, competent and qualified clerks for such respective polling places and voting boxes as may be required, if any, for the efficient conduct of said election. Section 4. Such election shall be held in accordance with the laws of the State of Texas governing general and municipal elections, insofar as the same may be applicable, and with the provisions of the City Charter and Ordinances of the City of Paris. Section 5. The Chief of Police of the City of Paris is hereby directed and instructed to post a properly executed Notice of Election pursuant to this order for election, signed by the Mayor of the City of Paris, at each of the polling places designated above, which are within each precinct in which the election is to be held, at least twenty (20) days before the election; further, a properly executed copy of such Notice of Election shall be published at least one time not more than twenty-five (25) days nor less than ten (10) days before the election in at least one daily newspaper published in Lamar County; and copies of the notice shall also be filed with the County Clerk of Lamar County and the City Clerk of the City of Paris and other copies shall be posted on the bulletin board in the Office of the County Clerk and on the bulletin board in the City Hall at least twenty (20) days before the election. Section 6. It is hereby found and determined in accordance with Article 6252-17, Vernon's Texas Civil Statutes, that written notice of the time, date, place and subject of this meeting was posted on the bulletin board in the City Hall, Paris, Texas, a place convenient to the public, and said notice has been so posted and remained posted continuously for at least three (3) full days preceding the date of this meeting, and it is directed that a copy of the return of said posting be attached to the minutes of this meeting and shall be made a part thereof for all intents and purposes. Section 7. The pay of the judges and clerks of said election is hereby authorized and established as follows: $20. 00 per day for each judge and clerk; the election judge who delivers the returns of said election immediately after the votes have been counted to the proper office shall be paid an additional sum of $5. 00 for that service, provided also, he shall make return of all election supplies not used when he makes returns of such election.
