1645 RES ELECTION WAS HELD BY QUALIFIED VOTERS ON 22ND DAY OF OCTOBER 1974RESOLUTION NO. 1645 WHEREAS, an election was held by the qualified voters of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on the 22nd day of October, 1974, for the purpose of determining whether an amount not less than $3, 000 of the assessed value of residence homesteads of persons 65 years of age or older shall be exempt from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Paris, as provided in Article 8, Section 1-b, of the Constitution of the State of Texas, which proposition was brought to this referendum in accordance with the Charter of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, to-wit: FOR or AGAINST THE PROPOSITION OF WHETHER AN AMOUNT NOT LESS THAN $3, 000 OF THE ASSESSED VALUE OF RESIDENCE HOMESTEADS OF PERSONS 65 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER SHALL BE EXEMPT FROM AD VALOREM TAXES LEVIED BY THE CITY OF PARIS ; and, WHEREAS, as required by law and directed and provided by the Charter and Ordinances of the City of Paris, such election was conducted and held at four (4) specified and designated poll- ing places, that is, one polling place in each bf the four (4) wards of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas; and, WHEREAS, sealed returns of said election, made by the duly appointed and designated election officials of and for the four (4) respective voting boxes, have been made to the Mayor and City Council of the City of Paris, as required by law, which re- turns, after due and deliberate review and canvass thereof, show the following results of said election, to-wit: (1) IN WARD ONE (1) A TOTAL OF 662 VOTES WERE CAST AS FOLLOWS: FOR THE PROPOSITION: 415 Votes; AGA.INST THE PROPOSITION: 247 Votes. (2) IN WARD TWO (2) A TOTAL OF 240 VOTES WERE CAST AS FOLLOWS: FOR THE PROPOSITION: 185 Votes; AGAINST THE PROPOSITION: 55 Votes. (3) IN WARD THREE (3) A TOTAL OF 298 VOTES WERE CAST AS FOLLOWS: FOR THE PROPOSITION: 244 Votes; AGAINST THE PROPOSITION: 54 Votes. (4) IN WARD FOUR (4) A TOTAL OF 523 VOTES WERE CAST AS FOLLOWS: FOR THE PROPOSITION: 420 Votes; AGAINST THE PROPOSITION: 103 Votes. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That from the above and foregoing canvass of the returns of the votes in the four (4) respective voting boxes in such election, it is declared and determined that an amount not less than $3, 000 of the assessed value of residence homesteads of persons 65 years of age or older shall be exempt from ad valorem taxes levied by the City of Paris, in accordance with Article 8, Section 1-b, of the Constitution of the State of Texas. Passed and adopted by the City Council of the City of Paris in special session convened pursuant to the directions of the City Charter of the City of Paris, Paris, Texas, on this the 30th day of October, 1974.
