1417 RES TX HIGHWAY DEPT IS PLANNING PROJECT TO FOUR-LANE LOOP HIGHWAY 286 ON NE SIDERFSOLUTION NO. 1417 .
WHFREAS, the Texas Highway Department is presently planning
a project to four-lane Loop Highway 286 on the N. E. side of
Paris, from U. S. Highway 271 North of Paris to U. S. Highway 271
Southeast of Paris; and,
WHEREAS, the Right of Way Map for said project and schema-
tic drawings for proposed construction at the Stillhouse Road
intersection indicate that Stillhouse Road from the North will
be extended Southward, under Loop 286 lanes, approximately per-
pendicular to said lanes, and continue Southward to connect to
existing pavement and an extension of Ei ghth Street; and,
WHER EAS, Eighth Street has not been constr.ucted in this
area and will not be constructed for several years; and,
WHEREAS, Fitzhugh Avenue (Ninth Street) is a major exist-
ing thoroughfare paralleling Eighth Street and connects to
Stillhouse Road on the North by a very dangerous reverse curve;
and,
WHgZEAS, the City of Paris designated Fitzhugh Avenue to
replace Eighth Street as a thoroughfare in the Master Plan; and,
WHEREAS, it would be in the best interest of safety to the
traveling public to connect Fitzhugh Avenue directly to
Stillhouse Road throu gh a cooperative effort of the Texas
Highway Department and the City of Paris and eliminate said dan-
gerous reverse curve; NOW, THIIZEFORE,
BE IT RFSOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS,
PARIS, TBxAS, That the City of Paris request the Texas Highway
Department to connect Stillhouse Road to Fitzhugh Avenue by re-
design, utilizing the same designated funds on the new location;
and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Paris will furnish
the necessary additional right of way required and pay for the
difference between funds designated for proposed work and actual
funds required to connect to Ninth Street.
