1174 RES LATE LLOYD M DESHONG SERVED AS MEMBER OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF PARIS PUBLIC LIBRARYR ESOLUTION NO. 1174 .
W.THEREAS, the late Lloyd M. DeShong served as a member of the
Board of Directors of the Paris Pablic Library for many years, and
served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Paris Public Library
from 1961 until his death in December, 1965; and,
WHEREAS, his service was a devoted service to the Library, and
his interest therein for the continued growth and progress of the Library
was always reflected in his actions; and,
WHEREAS9 improvements in the Library Building, increase in
volurr.e of books on the shelves, rise in the circulation of books to growing
membership in Paris and Lamar County, more extensive use of the Library
by students from all schools and Paris J.inior College, and -the promotion
of giving of Memorial Books to the Library, are evidence of the growth and
progress of the Library under his leadership as Chairman of the Board of
Directors; and,
Wi-IEREAS, the remaining memuers of the Board of Directors and
the staff of the Paris Pablic Library will express their appreciation to his
memory by continuing to strive for a Paris Public Library, wliich will
serve the citizens and students of Paris and Lamar County; andy
WHEt`ZEAS, the Board of Directors of the Paris Pubtic Library,
pursuant to Ordinance No. 1439, has made the recommendation that Mi•s.
Lloyd M. DeShong be appointed to the Library Board to fill the vacancy of
her deceased husband, effective February 14, 1966 and continuing until
February 14, 1967, or until her successor is appointed; and,
WHEREAS, under Ordinance No. 1439, it is necessary that such
recommendation be confirmed by the City Council; NUW,; THEREFOREy
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUVCIL OF TFiE i,ITY OF
PARISs That the appointment of Mrs. Ll.oyd M. DeShong, of Paris, Texas,
be, and it is hereby confirmed. That a copy of this resolution be furnished
to the widow of L.loyd M. DzShong on behalf of the Library Board and on
behalf of the City Council of the City of Paris.
