1119 RES CITY COUNCIL BEEN PETITIONED BY MEMBERSHIP OF PARIS POLICE DEPT

RESOLUTION NO. 1119 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has been petitioned by the membership of the Paris Police Department to permit participation of the policemen in the Federal Social Security Act; and, WHEREAS, Section 218(p) of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act has been amended to permit participation of police- men in positions covered by a retirement system; and, WHEREAS, the policemen of the City of Paris, Texas, have, by a signed petition, requested this, the City of Paris, Texas, to ask the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold an election by the policemen of said City of Paris, Texas, who are members of the Texas Retirement System, to determine whether or not they wish to have Federal Old Age, Survivors, and Disability Insurance coverage, in addition to the existing retirement system; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, TEXAS, in order to comply with Section 218(p) of Title II of the Federal Social Security Act, as amended, this the City of Paris, Texas, by and through its duly authorized City Council, requests the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold as expedi- tiously as possible a referendum of the policemen, members of the retirement system, as required in said law and in House Bill 603, Acts of the 52nd Legislature of the State of Texas, 1951, and there is hereby nominated by the City Council of the City of Paris, as members of the Election Committee, three representative employees of the City of Paris, the same being H. C. Greene, City Clerk of the City of Paris, as Chairman, with the other two mem- bers being Lieutenant H. B. Chamberlain and Lieutenant Andrew E. Smith, both of the Paris Police Department.
