RESOLUTION NO. 1119 <br />WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris has been <br />petitioned by the membership of the Paris Police Department to <br />permit participation of the policemen in the Federal Social <br />Security Act; and, <br />WHEREAS, Section 218(p) of Title II of the Federal Social <br />Security Act has been amended to permit participation of police- <br />men in positions covered by a retirement system; and, <br />WHEREAS, the policemen of the City of Paris, Texas, have, <br />by a signed petition, requested this, the City of Paris, Texas, <br />to ask the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold an <br />election by the policemen of said City of Paris, Texas, who are <br />members of the Texas Retirement System, to determine whether or <br />not they wish to have Federal Old Age, Survivors, and Disability <br />Insurance coverage, in addition to the existing retirement system; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, <br />TEXAS, in order to comply with Section 218(p) of Title II of the <br />Federal Social Security Act, as amended, this the City of Paris, <br />Texas, by and through its duly authorized City Council, requests <br />the Texas State Department of Public Welfare to hold as expedi- <br />tiously as possible a referendum of the policemen, members of the <br />retirement system, as required in said law and in House Bill 603, <br />Acts of the 52nd Legislature of the State of Texas, 1951, and <br />there is hereby nominated by the City Council of the City of <br />Paris, as members of the Election Committee, three representative <br />employees of the City of Paris, the same being H. C. Greene, City <br />Clerk of the City of Paris, as Chairman, with the other two mem- <br />bers being Lieutenant H. B.
