1010 RES COP IS INTERESTED IN PROJECT TO CONSTRUCT DAM ON SANDERS CREEKRESOLUTION NOa 1010 ,
WHEREAS, the City of Paris has been interested for some
time in a project to construct a dam on Sanders Creek, to create
Pat Mayse Lake, in Lamar County, Texas, among other things,
as the future source of water supply for the City of Paris; and
WHEREAS, the project was by Congress placed in the
hands of the U. S. Army Engineers, for the purpose of making
a survey to determine the feasibility of the creation of such dam
and reservoir; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Engineers assigned preliminary
survey and report of the feasibility of such project to the U. S.
Army Engineer District, Tulsa, Corps of Engineers, Tulsa,
Oklahoma, and the Tulsa Office of the U. S. Army Engineers at
Tulsa, assigned to Colonel Howard W. Penney the task of making
such preliminary survey and report of the feasibility of said
project; and
WHEREAS, Colonel Howard W. Penney did assume such
responsibility and cause such preliminary survey to be made,
and on the lst day of November, 1961 completed his report of
the feasibility of said project to the Chief of Engineers,
Department of the Army, Washington, D. C. ; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paris has examined such report and
has noted the quality of same; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paris is highly grateful to Colonel
Howard W. Penney for the efficient, correct, and thorough
manner in which such survey and report was made, the fact
that such report promptly cleared the
Division Engineer
U. S. Army Engineer Division, Southwestern
Dallas, Texas
and the same promptly cleared the office of the
Chief of Engineers
Department of the Army
Wa shington, D. C.
and thereafter the feasibility of the project contained in such report
was presented to the
Texas Water Commission
by which Commission it was promptly approved as being a feasible
project, and thereafter promptly approved by the
Governor of Texas
and returned to the Congress of the United States; and
WHEREAS, the City of Paris is highly grateful to Colonel
Howard W. Penney for his untiring efforts in said survey and
report, and his clear and conciae sta,tements regarding the
feasibility of said project; NOW, THEREFORE,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF PARIS, That the City of Paris does hereby express to
Colonel Howard W. Penney its high appreciation and thanks for
his efforts in such survey and report, and wish by this resolution
to commend him for his efforts and efficiency in said report. It
is directed that a copy of this resolution be furnished to Colonel
Howard W. Penney and to the Division Engineer, U. S. Army
Engineer Division, Southwestern, Dallas, Texas.
