698 RES CITY COUNCIL ENTERED INTO CONTRACT~ . AESOLUTION N0. 698 WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Paris entered into a contract with the United States Pipe and Foundry Company, dated November- 30, 1956, being Project No. 803-11A-56 of the Water and Sewer Program, whereby the City of Paris agreed to purchase, and the United States Pipe and Foundry Company, a corporation, agreed to furnish 27,000 pounds of cast iron fittings, and said fittings contracted for were of the bell and spigot type fittings, and is Item 7-A in the above mentioned con- tract; and, WHEREAS, it has been called to the attention of the City Council of the City of Paris by the Engineers on such project that it is most desirable to have the belland spigot fittings substituted with mechanical joint fittings for the following reasonss (1) The total cost will be less to the City of Paris because of the lighter weight in the large sizes and quantities being purchased. (2) That the City of Paris anticipates that a lower bid will be received for the installation of such fittings because of the ease with which mechanical joint fittings can be installed, thereby reducing the cost of installation. (a) The mechanical joint fittings will speed up the installation of the lines anticipated. (3) The United States Pipe and Foundry Company by its letter of April 3, 1957 has furnished its consent to the cancellation of Item No. 7-A, in the amount of 27,000 pounds of bell and spigot fittings. (4) That the United States Pipe and Foundry Company has agreed to the above installation and to bid on a competitive basis for the mechanical joint fittings; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESO LVED BY THE CITY OpUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PARIS, That Item No. 7-A in the contract between the City of Paris and United States Pipe and Foundry Company, which contract is dated November 30, 1956, be, and the same is hereby cancelled. That the City Manager of the City of Paris is hereby instructed to furnish United States Pipe and Foundry Company a copy of this resolution. Passed and adopted this/bth day of April, A. D., 1957.
