CITY COUNCIL AGENDA ITEM BRIEFING SHEET
Originating Department: I Presented By:
City Manager John Godwin
RECOMMENDED MOTION:
Recommend Approval of Demolition of Animal Shelter
POLICY ISSUE(S:
BACKGROUND:
Agenda Item No.:
19.
As I indicated to you in a recent manager's report, we recently received prices for the demolition of the
old animal shelter and for the old police station. Both facilities have asbestos, so costs are $11,100 and
$138,000, respectively, for demolition, disposal, and site cleanup. At this point, these are unbudgeted
expenses, and I presume our first priority is to move forward with the residential demolitions the council
approved in September. I did want to get clarification on this matter, however. Perhaps the animal
shelter is a small enough project, for example, that the council would like to treat it like one of our 75 or
so other residential demolitions and move forward now rather than later. If the council wishes, we can
also get a price quote on the old warehouse building.
